Cultural Artifacts: Cars Have you ever thought of what might be an important cultural artifact that influences our everyday life? Believe it or not, we make use of cultural artifacts much more than one would think. The cultural artifact that I am choosing to focus on, cars, play an important role in our everyday life by allowing our culture to move about our world and travel to new and interesting places. People are constantly using cars to go to work, stores, vacations, you name it. Cars enable our culture to move about any place in our fast pace world. A key feature of our world is that people do not stay at home as much and are always going places which makes the cultural artifact of cars highly important. For example, many people, including some of my family members, would ride their bike to work many years ago. These family members no longer ride their bike to work because they are now driving to work instead. I also know of some co-workers living a few blocks away from their job, but continue to drive to work. After all, driving to work is much more efficient and quicker than riding a bike or walking. Physical activity may not take place as much as it used to in years past due to the increase in using cars. People find it easier to use their cars and avoid the physical activity to get to where they need to
