When Japanese people say ‘sumimasen’, it is often the case where foreigners actually thinks that one is apologizing. Hence, they will be confused of why the person is apologizing. However, this is not the case. Most of the times when Japanese people say ‘sumimasen’ it is not that they are apologizing, even though translation of the word may be ‘sorry’. It is more similar to the phrase ‘excuse me’ in English. Perhaps also because Japanese people are less hesitant in saying ‘sorry’ that is does not bother Japanese people at all. Although it is unconcious, this can be one of the elements of why mismatch
Tension was rising between the U.S. and Japan long before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. It began in 1919 as repairs were being made for WWI, Japan was on the “winning” side and wanted something in return. During the meeting at Versailles, Japan felt that Europe and America were excluding them and trying to keep distance. Japan was ready for change and separation from America and Europe. The Japanese wanted to prove their dominance by launching a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor.

Consequently, they began to place the blame on the Japanese. However,
Japan also disrespected America’s pleads for peace. President Roosevelt sent a letter to Japan that said, “I am confident that both of us, for the sake of the peoples not only of our own great countries but for the sake of humanity in neighboring territories, have a sacred duty to restore traditional amity and prevent further death and destruction in the world.” (Doc L). This quote is showing how FDR respectfully suggested that Japan think about the impact their actions are having on the entire world and to consider peace. Japan replied to this letter one day later by attacking Pearl Harbor (Doc M).

The main reason they did this was so they could “keep” the pride of their leader, Hideki Tojo. He on the other hand he refused to continue the major losses of his people, because even after the second bomb America was arming and ready to deploy a third atom bomb. Japan surrendered ending their conflict with the Allies and World War
It is because the Japanese were not at odds with their country, they were not refugees, because they were well educated, because they could accomplish anything through hard work that they posed such a high threat in the eyes of many Americans. They did not want for the Japanese to keep an ounce of their culture; they did not want colonization of America by the “proud Yamato race” (Takaki 209); they were afraid of the possibilities the Japanese had before them. And so in order to avoid the problem altogether the Japanese had to be extracted from the social order, and the attack on Pearl Harbor provided the perfect
The Japanese and the United States had conflict between each other due to a previous attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. Six months after, they stuck back again in Midway to gain control of the Hawaiian Islands. Also because Japan conquered islands such as Malaysia, Singapore,
The other reason was the surprise air raid of Pearl Harbor. Franklin D. Roosevelt was the person who put it into action because of bad leadership and public opinion. The Pearl Harbor attack created even more racism towards Japanese Americans. During a time period of 35 years(1889-1924) there were over 200,000 Japanese immigrants that came into the U.S. With a threat of loss jobs on mostly white controlled farms.
Through this separation caused a disconnection between families in their tribes. Similar to how Africans were mistreated so were the Koreans by the Japanese people. Presented in Doc# 8,”The Korean people were forced to change their family names into Japanese names...worship Japanese gods. ”Meaning they wanted to completely wipe away the Korean culture and to spread their influence. Moreover, since most countries were practicing expansionism, Japan realized it needed to adapt as well to the new order.
Overt hatred for which the Japanese Americans have prepared themselves for never materializes. This imagined hatred shows the rarity of open hatred compared to subtle acts of prejudice. In fact, by imagining that all of white America will hate them, these Japanese Americans are accepting overt racism prejudice without it ever occurring. The wrong belief that
Because of these reasons, Japanese started to look for better and safer countries.
It is a matter of opinion and it would be unfair if one group of people excluded literature because it was different from what they were used to reading. In addition, Yang has an interesting view of writing. He states that as a writer it is necessary to get lost in the pages and allow your thoughts to flow in the first rough draft. Writers should not refrain from speaking on other cultures simply because they aren’t privy to certain traditions or languages. He explains that writing about other races is acceptable even if stereotypes surface in the writing.
She doesn’t take offense at how she is being treated, she is sorry that she is this way. This is something that she can’t change and is still angry at herself. Because of how other people view Japanese people,
