Yet another psychology topic that applies greatly to the olympics. Socialization and cultural diffusion go hand in hand with one other. Cultural Diffusion is is the spread of cultural beliefs and social activities from one group to another. This is one of the main things that is shown when you watch the olympics even with the symbol of the olympics shows cultural diffusion with representing the different places. This also happens with the athletes as well they get to learn some of the traditions of the other athletes and as well with the other people at the olympics like the spectators such as things the athletes do before their event that could be a part of that culture or some of the other activities that occur during the olympics. Cultural diffusion takes place in people 's day to day life but it is much more noticeable in the olympics because you are so close to the other cultures even if you are just watching it feels as if you were close to those cultures. Although some of the country 's politics don 't like each other, but the athlete don 't focus on this they focus on their event and also there sportsmanship towards the other people participating also to all of the fans of the other countries. By the end of the olympics you can see that bonds between all of the people attending have been made, by watching the closing ceremony and seeing each team give hugs or handshakes to each other is another form of cultural diffusion. Even non athletes realize cultural diversity is something to look at “It is not our difference that divides us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences.”
Cultural diffusion can be defined as a process by which one culture barrows or adopts material culture or ideas from another culture. This process occurs when one culture comes into some form of contact with another culture. The ideas or material culture that is borrowed is usually more advanced than what the other culture holds, which in turn makes it more appealing to the other culture. Cultural diffusion is not only limited to remote areas or islands but also has spread to Western cultures such as the U.S. An example of cultural diffusion is beignets in New Orleans which originated from the French.
According to Doc 1 Pierre de Coubertin, founder of the modern Olympic movement revived the olympics in order to bring peace to the world. While the Olympics to bring peace temporarily during the event many people such as Coubertin believed that the games would slowly create a more stable world with less hardships such as war. The fact that the Olympic games are on the foundations of the desire to create peace show how that is the the game's main purpose. Showing how even if the Olympics failed in that aspect it still would always have the intentions of bringing nations together. Another Document showing that the Olympics brought together nations is Doc 5.
However what is majorly overlooked is the fact that the most famous athlete of his time, his outstanding displays of athletic abilities at the 1936 Olympic Games that captivated the world even as it infuriated the Nazis. Despite the racial slurs he endured, Jesse Owens ' grace and athleticism rallied crowds across the globe. But when the four-time Olympic gold medalist returned home, he could not even ride in the front of a bus. The events that followed in Germany, namely the Holocaust and World War II overshadowed the Berlin games. However, it is very important that a world gathering like the Olympics could take place in a country that was in the process of eliminating an entire race of people and yet the world stood
My culture, even though it may be hard to see in my own eyes can be represented by my passion for running. My sport influences the way I eat, dress, what I spend money on, and my friends along with the choices I make through everyday life. What I eat can affect how I race on Saturday. I eat a lot of pasta and rice because they are high in carbohydrates. This enables my body to have energy stored up whenever I want to run.
