An Australian Republic is about us — not the Queen, not Prince Charles or the world economy. We should do it now, without delay. As Nelson Mandela once said, “ For to be free is not merely to cast off one 's chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.” Until we break our last Constitutional links to the mother country, our nationhood is incomplete. Now after just over 115 years of Federation, Australia must finally join the world of nations as a full equal, unshackled to any other nation. POINT 1 COST: Many anti-republicans argue that the cost of changing to a republic is too high, as where
Exploration shaped Australia because if sea explorers did not come to Australia. It would not be known today as it is. 3. What was life like for Aboriginal people before the arrival of the white faced people? Everything was peaceful and calm and they would not have any wars or man-made guns to fight, and that is why when the Europeans came to Australia there was big war fights between them and they claimed the land as their own because the small spears were no match for the guns.
This along with other incidents were key factors in the analysis of Brown’s character by the Australian government, leading to a refusal of Brown’s visa in 2015. This decision meant that he could not perform at his upcoming concert, and created displeasure for Brown’s fans and event organisers. While I don’t expect everyone to believe the government’s decisions are always the best; I’m sure it’s easy to come to a conclusion that Chris Brown isn’t a character that any morally conscious person would choose to be around.
Similar to what Adolf Hitler proposed with the Nazis in Germany. Patriotism is not love of or for the country, and if by “country” one means the environment- rocky mountains, plain fields, monuments, and the like. Almost every country has such landmarks, and if thats what we base patriotism on, then Americans have little to no value for which we can declare unique or special admiration for. And certainly, patriotism cannot mean giving ones life for some collection of rocks or bodies of water. Patriotism is not obeying in anything our figures tell us or do, it is not plainly showing up to vote.
These facts must be recognised to ensure real equality and a fair-go for Indigenous people. Australia has been labelled as the country of mateship, fair-go and tolerance, but the mistreatment of Asylum seekers in Australia denies these values. In our anthem we sing “For those who’ve come across the seas, we’ve boundless plains to share”. It ironic isn’t it? As when Asylum seekers arrive in Australia we do not offer a hand of mateship instead we use punitive matters such as sending them to mandatory detention, which shows how xenophobia is manifested in Australia (Ariyawansa,
The idea of equality can never be made a reality with individuals treating each other the way they do now. The division among social groups whether it’s by race, religion, gender, economic status, or physical appearance, is unacceptable and the stereotypes only causes tension and for these groups to become more divided and separated from society as a whole. How can the United States boast its diversity, when the diversity of its people calls for tension and lead to a fragmented nation, and contradicts the name of the country itself? When will the American people become united once again just as they did during the Revolutionary
There is a need for a review of the entitlements system of Members of Parliament. There needs to be an independent review into the extravagant and full-of-flaw entitlements system. Members of Parliament should not abuse their privilege as the representatives and servants of the Australian people in the Australian Parliament. The review must suggest and try to enforce changes to the system such as: reducing the salary of parliamentarians, reducing the extravagance of entitlements in general to be within the public expectations, limiting the number of flights MPs are entitled to and downgrade the flights to economy class, making changes in other areas of travel expenses, reducing the pension of former MPs to an acceptable level, and scrapping the Life Gold Pass. The politicians who have misused the entitlement system and ripped off Australian taxpayers of millions of dollars must be prosecuted and punished in the manner appropriate for fraudsters.
It is because the United States has such a diverse population that its language has evolved to be so different to its European and Australian counterparts. To end that spread of diversity influence would be to homogenize the population. What progress could be wrought of such a sameness in every individual living in a shared space? None. The very notion of stifling ideas and collaboration on a grand scale should terrify anyone who looks toward future progress, and indeed anyone who values the individuality and creativity this country likes to tout as “the American way.” The destruction of its blended cultures, even through things viewed as small or unimportant as destroying the way a sentence is structured or a word pronounced because it is dissimilar to the way one majority group has deemed as “proper,” should be of great concern to every citizen who values his or her continued American
Anytime tools that are used to encourage freedom and assist in achieving happiness are used for the exact opposite there is an apparent threat to the morality and ethics of the nation as a whole. Discrimination has no place in any part of American society, and as long it exists institutionally in any form, the country will continue to move further and further away from true
