Without culture we as a community will not have a sense of touch with our identity.Culture brings us life and ways how we see the world in our view. Culture is based on everything you were taught and lived through when you was growing up examples are like playing sports, being respectful to others, being taught from what is right and what is wrong. People love to label themselves. From personality quizzes to AA meetings, many long for acceptance within a group filled with people like themselves. Yet, arguably, the most important label for many is their heritage. In her essay “Cultural Baggage,” author Barbara Ehrenreich discusses her relation to her identity and society's obsession with culture, questioning why people find clearly defined culture as so important and crucial to the human experience.

Cultural identity, the identity or feeling of belonging to a group, but what does that mean for people? For many of people their cultural identity it describes who they are, their heritage, and who they are as a person. For Pat Mora she has been torn between her cultural identity; she is not accepted by their of her cultures. Frida Kahlo is torn between her home, Mexico, and her current residence, the U.S.A.. While Frida Kahlo and Pat Mora identify as Mexican for their cultural identity, Mora describes wanting to be accepting by both of her cultures, while Frida wants to go home to her true culture.

Culture is a way of thinking, a way of behaving and learning. We express our opinions based upon our beliefs, and define ourselves by what aspects of our culture we choose to show. Have you ever wondered why some people act the way they act? It really all depends on the way they were raised, and what culture they were raised in. That’s what I have always wondered, how people act the way they act. While some may say that culture is the only way to learn about others. I believe one’s culture occasionally informs the way one views the world because our experiences are what truly shapes our views, which is illustrated in personal experiences and literature. Because all cultures are important to each and every one of us, thus our culture heavily influences each and everyone and every culture around us. Culture is all around us no matter where you go, it will always with you. It has a massive impact on each and every one of us. Culture affects how one views others and the world around them in a large way as shown by past experiences, heritage, and family. Family affects our culture because the people we spend our life with have such a large impact on the way we act. Moreover our past experiences affect us by learning from what we and others do and the result.
Throughout my experiences in this course so far, I have had many opportunities to reflect on my own past and have begun to better understand my own cultural identity. It has been much more difficult to wrap my head around than I would have predicted it to be because so many things play into the construction of an identity that it can be hard to look at all of those separate pieces together. My cultural identity, like all others, is more complicated than it first appears. I identify as a white person, a woman, an American, a gay person, and a feminist, just to name a few. While all of these labels carry with them stereotypes and expectations, they also interplay with the cultural influences I was subject to throughout my childhood. So, in looking at my cultural identity, I am examining both my own labels and what they mean to me and layering on top of that cultural influencers that operate within my life and how the interplay between these layers works.
The Joy Luck Club is what will be our example for the topic Cultural Encounter, which is caused by the differences of cultures. Therefore, communication development is based on sharing thoughts, which leads to an argument that ends either with agreements or disagreements. There are many aspects in an individual that affects the course of this action, and culture is one of them; which I will focus on in this article. I think that it is the most important, in my point of view.
