This is the description of Curley’s wife, in the beginning of the novel. People have a misconception about her so they tend to think she is trouble. This is shows why workers stay away from her, because they don’t want any trouble with curley.

Meaning she was after all the sweet and young person. She was judged by the first appearance she made, just to make a friend. Someone who understood her and really cared about her. Someone who treated her as a person than a possession.
