This study was delimited to the identification of the determination of phytochemicals specifically the plant secondary metabolized and antioxidant activity of custard apple (Annona squamosa) fruit extracts.
Phytochemical analysis was delimited to the qualitative rather than to the quantitative screening. Only the presence or absence of the plant secondary metabolize is taken into consideration.
The antioxidant property was conducted by the analyst at the Industrial Technology Development Institute, Standards And Testing Division, Gen. Santos Ave., Bicutan, Taguig, Metro Manila 1631

The paste of the flesh of custard apple is beneficial to treat boils, abscesses and ulcers. Eating custard removes expectorants. The bark of the custard apple tree is used for herbal medicine because of containing of astringents and tannins. The plenty of nutrients, especially magnesium in custard apple is good in prevention of strokes and heart attacks. For healthy hair growth, the custard fruit is highly recommended. The fruit is good for eyes due to adequate presence of vitamin A. Regular intake of custard apple reduces the chances of rheumatism and other forms of arthritis as it helpful in flux out of excessive acids. The anemic patient should eat custard apple regularly as the fruit has good percentage of iron. The obese person should avoid it but the fruit is good for underweight people to increase weight. As per study, it has been found that custard apple is the excellent source of copper. Copper being a part of hemoglobin, the fruit is extremely suggested for pregnant women. Women who doesn’t have necessary copper, there is chances of early baby born. Custard apple may be used as substitute of milk by making the fruit into beverages. The free radical scavenging activities of the three extracts of Annona squamosa leaves and ascorbic acid (vitamin C) were measured in terms of hydrogen donating or radical scavenging ability using the stable 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radicals. Studies report widely differing levels of anti-oxidants in Annona spp. Studies conducted in India (Kaur and Kapoor, 2005), Taiwan (Chen, et al. 2006), and Costa Rica (Franco, 2006) show that Annona cherimola and Annona muricata have high anti-oxidant activity. In contrast, a DPI&F study (Treloar, 2006; unpublished data) showed that Annona spp. hybrids have very low levels of antioxidants. These discrepancies may be due to varietal differences, method of analyses or time of sampling.
In the Taiwanese study (Chen, et al. 2006), the antioxidant activity in mature fruits of 36 species and varieties produced in Taiwan was analyzed by the ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP)
