Catherine Concannon BMBA-9457 Market Decision Making Due: 9/5/2017 CYWORLD To no surprise, the 21st century held the rise of the internet signaling the growth of several social networking websites, which gave individual users the power to carve out their own niche and create their “alter ego” as an outlet to a way of self-expression. For many Koreans their outlet was a Cyworld. Due to Cyworld’s unique revenue model of selling virtual items to over 20 million users, it had become revolutionary as it pioneered user experiences into community gifting and public threads. However, just like every other new fad, in 2006, the social networking market was declining on user activity and loyalty, which was the heartbeat of Cyworld. In August of 2008, Cyworld’s parent company, SK Telecom, brought in a key actor, Hyung-Chul Joo, as the newly appointed CEO of SK Comms (online services division of …show more content…
With that being said, it is my opinion that Cyworld focus its strategies solely towards this youth group to revive its mission and re-inspire its main user-base with bold, contentious strides forward. The next question is how will Cyworld cater to it’s users above the age of 35 with all of its focus on the Korean youth? It’s Simple, it won’t. Cyworld should make a bold announcement stating that they are implementing an “Age Restriction” tool. Although this step seems risky, I believe it will create added shock value that Cyworld needs. Sure it might stir up some controversy, but it will get people talking about Cyworld and will also display a sort of loyalty and exclusivity to their new targeted Korean Youth. Additionally, this age restriction could potentially increase, based on the data provided in the HBR. Exhibit 10 illustrates that 72% of Cyworlds revenue came from the Korean youth market, as they were mostly responsible for the “Paid Items” – such as minihompy designs and accessories and music
Nathan Jurgenson’s sarcastic and affiliated remarks in his essay “The IRL Fetish,” published in an online magazine, The New Inquiry, help bring about the point that people often look at the world in black and white, online and offline, instead of on a gray scale. He is a sociologist who openly makes fun of others who comment on how the world should unplug completely from online structures; he names them hypocrites. His coined remark of “digital dualism” summarizes what these critics mean, of how the offline and online cannot coexist, but he concurs that people can live in the middle of these realms, for the offline cannot exist without the latter. This is an agreeable assessment on the use of technology, seeing as how the term was coined by

But once they complete this stage, they tend to be fully prepared and able to complete the demand of latest technology based jobs. They will have the knowledge to make crucial decisions at a mature level that will be helpful in the long run. A different thing that would help this article would be to trying to get more evidence of culture differences and also trying to get a survey of forgotten young adults. This could help to see the other view of life. The young people who skipped this stage are managing in their lives.
With every new generation of teenagers or young adults, there always seems to be this negative look towards the youth culture. What really strikes me is that it happens with every new generation. It seems like once a person hits their teenage years they suddenly become “rebels” of society, and for what reason? How do most adults see the younger generation? They are young people who have bad manners, no respect for the elderly, they are real tyrants, they do not stand up when elders walk in, they do not listen to their parents or teachers, they talk in the presence of adults, and they eat gluttonously (Socrates).
Nicholas Carr wrote this essay to let the upcoming generations know about the danger effect of the Internet overuse by using ethos, logos, and pathos and also some other rhetorical strategies. He starts his essay with a scene that was takin by Stanley Kubrick’s A in 2001: A Space Odyssey at the end of the paragraph saying, “I can feel it.’’ And after that he started his next paragraph with the same words, “I can feel it.’’
The Market Revolution was a big turning point for the United States in Economic developments for many reasons. The shift from agriculture to more factory life was a huge part in which women were now being sent into the labor force. As well as the idea that people now shifted from the idea of self employment to a boss telling the workers what to do. The South however was more reliant on farming due to the fact that they were slave owning states so their shift to industrialization was not as strong as the North. They did still however receive new and more efficient tools to help with farming such as the metal plow and the cotton gin.
The attraction towards technology has triggered a change in the way people live today. Many people are fascinated by technology; some may even say to the point of addiction. This is because everything we will ever need is right at the tip of our fingers. For example, there are more than 500 million active users on the app known as Facebook. According to Document E, the company develops technologies that facilitate the sharing of information through the social graph, the digital mapping of people's real-world social
In her article “I Tweet, Therefore I am”, Peggy Orenstein states that people using social media live in a performance culture that erodes the very relationships it tries to create, and alienates them from the real world. When users post without conscious thought, the world goes from a stage to a reality television show where every move you make is broadcast. Studies have shown that living like this will result in a loss of empathy. People can not put themselves in other 's shoes because they already know every detail of the person 's life already. Orenstein also states that people form their identities based off of their social media persona.
The Market Revolution was a game changer for America. It changed the lives of Americans, especially farmers. It allowed farmers to grow what they did best and bring to the market to sale and be able to purchase things they were unable to grow. This brought on a social change, Transportation and communication were a big art of the Market Revolution and couldn’t have happened without it.
The modernization of the web can have positive and negative consequences on the world. It is sure in light of the fact that it gives everyone the power to access any information, that they need in second. In any case, it is contrary since individuals start to get limited focus and just focus on the things they need to see as opposed to seeing the full picture. To begin with, The Loneliness of the Interconnected is an essay on how the internet
In 1988, the Internet was opened to the public. At that time, not many people were aware of what a huge impact the Internet would have on the lives of future generations and cultures. While it was at first widely accepted by many users because of its astonishingly convenient and unlimited access to information, the enthusiasm for the Internet has more recently diminished and even disappeared in some cases. Many people no longer view the Internet as a helpful tool, but more as a harmful weapon, attacking every area of our lives, including education, communication, literacy, attention span, memory, intelligence, relationships, politics, economics, even sleep, diet, and physical activity. The Internet is ultimately affecting and determining the
Technology has been expeditiously changing over previous generations. Those born between 1946 - 1964 are classified as Baby Boomers, and from 1995 - 2012 are catergorised as Generation Z. Over the years, youths become more connected to their mobile phones and given up and lost real connections and relationships? The behaviour standards and the influence from Baby Boomers has significantly altered towards the youths over the past decades. Generation Z has an overall population of 82 million worldwide, with the oldest turning 23 and the youngest turning 6 (Robinson, 2018). Imagine your 16 year old self. Would you not want to be voting in elections and make the right decisions towards politics? States in America are already lowering the age when you can vote to 16. Turn out of US voters below 25 at presidential elections fell from 50% in 1972 to 38% in 2012. The Asia-Pacific Economics Blog notes the young demographic is some of the most engaged, and by extending it to a younger age could fuel their passion for many years.
