Final examinations will soon be taking place on college campuses across the United States, and on these campuses many students will resort to taking amphetamines in an effort to achieve the grades they desire. Whether they be blue, pink, or orange, there are few things in higher demand at universities during finals than these pills. Adderall, nicknamed Addy, is probably the most prominent, and is heavily relied on by students that want to speed through their remaining assignments. In society and college campuses, sexual assault occurs quite frequently. According to an estimation one third of women experience a forced sexual experience at least once in their life and most of the time it occurs in colleges. Men have also been reported to be victim of sexual assaults mostly by other men. Most of the time the sexual assault is planned and perpetrated by a third person, who is known to the victim of incident. Drug and alcohol use play role in this issue and contribute to the problem as most of the time the victim and perpetrators are under the effect of alcohol or any other drug during the incident. It looks scary how vulnerable the survivor can be at the time of assault. However, as long as the matter of violence is associated, the students at college campuses are safer than their non-college mates. Some training and education has been administrated to the students for awareness about the violence and sexual assaults. Even, with increased training and education, most of the college campuses have much longer way to go for decreasing the intensity and number of assaults and the incidents have immense negative impact on the society and people around us.

Campuses can also utilize programs such as the Haven Training that is designed to raise awareness. With the use of technology, engaging media, and statistics, it allows the student to get a more complete explanation of the problem that is rampant across college campuses. For example, the first statistic in the video points out is that 1 in 5 women report experiencing an attempted or completed rape during their college experience (Haven, 2015). The topic I want to investigate is the illicit use of Adderall among college students in the United States. I will be focusing on the prevalence of Adderall on campuses, associations between Adderall usage and other drug use, motives for Adderall usage, and differences in Adderall use based on gender and ethnicity. Recent headlines have highlighted the fact that rape culture is prevalent in our society, most noticeably on college campuses. To understand why this is a social issue we first have to understand what rape culture entails. Rape culture is a set of assumptions that reinforces male sexual aggression and disregards violence against females (Hildebrand & Najdowski, 2015, p. 1062). Most teenagers complain about not having enough freedom. To be able to sit and eat ice cream out of the box at ten in the morning for breakfast or blast their favorite music as loud as possible. For most, college provides that, opening its campus to their students with gates of gold granting young adults the freedom that they dream about. Unfortunately, a new danger that once was cloaked from young minds is being revealed, making this freedom less obtainable. That danger is rape.

The Hunting Ground is a documentary film that captures students who have been sexually assaulted at their college campus. This documentary specifically focuses on two former University of North Carolina students, Andrea Pino and Annie Clark. They both share the same story of being raped on UNC campus. Throughout this documentary, viewers learn that many sexual assault cases happen on college campuses. However, many of these cases are often ignored by college administrators because universities want to keep rape statistics low and they have an financial incentive to do so.

People tend to think that sexual harassment and rape are the same thing. However, that is not always the case. According to Dictionary, the definition of sexual harassment is “uninvited and unwelcome verbal or physical behaviour of a sexual nature especially by a person in authority toward a subordinate.” Forced kissing, groping, or even looking at someone the wrong way is considered to be sexual harassment. There are a lot of cases off college campuses, but recently campuses particularly have been an issue. Media has been shining light towards how often this situation occurs on college campuses, and according to current incidents, sexual harassment of campuses has become an even bigger issue.

Sexual assaults on campuses have received more attention than in the past, because of an increased number of incidents occurring. Eliminating these assaults is nearly impossible, although with the help of society, individual strategies, and the involvement of the universities, we can cut down the number of victims dramatically. Schools want their campuses to be safe, yet all schools have violence. Every student deserves the right to a safe learning environment. Should schools do more to help prevent sexual assaults on campus or, should more women carry around pepper spray like I do?
