“Thousands of men and women are demonstrating to fight the idea that what women wear, what they drink or how they behave can make them a target for rape.” This quote by feminist writer Jessica Valenti perfectly explains the main idea of the SlutWalk movement. Rape is an exceedingly common crime in America, and unfortunately, one in which the victim is most found responsible. Society repeatedly tells women throughout their lifetimes that not leaving a drink unattended, wearing modest clothing, not walking the streets alone at night, and much more will keep them safe from assault. Sadly, however, these things don’t prevent rape.
Overall this does not help our society at all, but really there is nothing we can do about it. There’s people in this world with no arms or legs but we deal with them. There’s also people that are sociopaths and phychotic and we just have to deal with it. The only time we can do something about it, is if they harm are doing something crazy like their usual ways.
Hester is the biggest sinner throughout the romance and there is no reason to believe that Dimmesdale, or Chillingworth is. One main reason why Hester was the biggest sinner was because she was an adulteress to begin with. Toward the beginning of the book, the townspeople had accused her of having a baby with another man because the husband was nowhere to be seen. This is important because it ties into many other reasons as to why she is the biggest sinner.
He’d never considered this before because he didn’t think she’d want a long term relationship. He knows that there is no getting around hurting his family but he can spare Dallas if he really wanted to. Dallas opens up to Ben and tells him about when she was younger she got raped by her uncle. Other than Dallas and her mother, Ben is the only other person in the town who knows Dallas’s secret. Ben’s reaction is exactly what Dallas was hoping for.
It was against my principles and all, but I was feeling so depressed I didn 't even think. That 's the whole trouble. When you 're feeling very depressed, you can 't even think. […] I looked at the red thing with my number on it, on my key. "Twelve twenty-two," I said.
Also she doesn 't even go to Gatsby 's funeral! She cant even send a flower or a note and she leaves far away from West and East egg. I despise both Tom and Daisy, but Daisy 's actions are so reckless she caused superfluous tragedies that could have
His mother is no longer able to mentally function as she never interacts with Grendel, and the humans he interacts with fear him, so he gets no real interaction from anyone. Consequently, Grendel describes himself as only existing and everything else is just imagination. Isolation takes a toll on the mentally of most people, so it isn’t illogical to assume that Grendel is breaking down from his seclusion. He is arguing with himself over his own thoughts as shown on page 3 of the novel: “Not, of course, that I fool myself with thoughts that I'm more noble. Pointless, ridiculous monster crouched in the shadows, stinking of dead men, murdered children, martyred cows.
This response clearly explains that rape is the worst thing that can happen to a woman because men see women as only her sexual purity, because it is the only part of her they care about. Claiming the rape is the worst thing that can happen to a woman but not a man maintains rape culture 's belief that men cannot be raped and that women solely exist for men’s pleasure. These beliefs are toxic to young adults and children because it encourages males to never speak up if they are raped, because they will be made fun of and called liars, and encourages females to believe that they are only worth something if a man says or believes so. Overall the beliefs that only women can be raped and that men never are can affect people for the rest of their lives and cause victims to suffer in
Premarital sex is also a big red flag for the puritans. Bre gets raped by Brendan but soon after that, she has sex with Chase after claiming they love each other. Just because people think they love each other, doesn’t mean that’s the ‘O.K.’ to having sex before marriage. Soon after having sex with Chase, Bre finds out she is pregnant. Thinking it’s
A woman cannot go to jail for wearing a certain dress but a man can for sexual assault, yet the man hardly ever goes to jail and the woman is held responsible for provoking assault. In any sexual assault case, women are both physically and mentally abused by their offender and the opinions of others. The eternal damage that comes along with being a raped victim leads to many disorders and like the actual rape case itself, is not taken seriously. A woman is much more affected than just "unwanted sex" that takes place and the
Also Alice could not take birth control due to her doing drugs she always would forget what day of the month it was. Alice was absolutely not a hero in this movement. She did nothing to help stop what was happening to her nor did she unconsidered abortion even though she knew it was not
He knows Lennie would never do anything huge huge like kill someone or any huge living being. George always told him to stay away from Curley’s wife because she’s trouble and Lennie never listens and never knows when to stop even when it’s turning into something horrible. “ And she continued to struggle, and her eyes were wild with terror he shook her then, and he was angry with her… And he shook her; and her body flopped like a fish and then she was still, for Lennie had broken her neck” (Steinbeck chpt 5). George does not know what Lennie has done yet but since Lennie did this Curley is about to go for a man hunt for George’s friend Lennie and this makes us feel sympathetic that he is about to lose his friend.
All in all, the Elizabethan Era had endless cruel and rare punishments for the different criminals in both the upper and lower classes. Everyday was filled with countless crimes resulting in terrifying punishments. The most inhuman acts were performed in this time period. It was not a time to make any mistakes because there was no forgiveness, no one will ever understand the minds of the tortures in the
They can come up with ways to stop them, but there are virtually no consequences for breaking the law. Even Michael’s article supports this, telling people that there is “Absolutely no way to enforce the law as it relates to the enforcement of bathroom provisions.” The police can’t enforce the law without interfering with people’s basic needs to use the bathroom. Overall making a transgender bathroom law would be completely pointless and lead to the senseless drama and hurt of
I blamed it all on Tituba like always, no one is going to believe her, she is just a slave. It is so easy to blame everything on her! Mary looked like she might explode and end up telling everyone the truth about what really went on the night, but I scared her off. None of the other girls will tell on us, they all worship me too much.
