Japan attacks Pearl Harbor
"Yesterday, December 7th, 1941, a day that will live in infamy" This famous speech by Franklin Delano Roosevelt declared to Congress requesting war on Japan. Pearl Harbor, though the casualties were abundant, was the most pivotal point in World War II, and without it the United States of America would have never entered into World War II.
In 1936, a German by the name of Adolf Hitler rose to power, who believed that the Germans were supposed to take over the world. Hitler then created a military group called the Nazis, who entrusted Hitler's strategic plan to "cleanse" the world. In 1936, the Olympic Games were to be held in Berlin Germany that upcoming year. Shops were smashed and ruined and many were taken to concentration camps, a camp where very few survived. The Germans gained allies quickly which included Italy and Japan. They began to conquer Europe with a breeze like a fire that can't be extinguished. From this point America wanted nothing to do with a war in Europe.
Pearl Harbor was an Air Force base near Honolulu, Hawaii. This settlement was vital to the US because it housed the renowned Pacific Fleet. This fleet contained over 100 ships, such as the Arizona, and the Oklahoma, and thousands of soldiers, and made up a portion of the US Navy and Air Force. This force was to be used in case Japan or another Axis power was to attack the US. Meanwhile just across the Pacific, the Japanese were well aware of the Pacific Fleet, and knew that if they ever wanted to invade America, they would have to overcome the fleet. The next day, President Roosevelt assembled congress to ask them to declare war on the empire of Japan. He was overwhelmed by support and so the us was now in the chaos. The Pacific Fleet was lost losing over 2500 men and ten aircraft carriers and ammunition. The Japanese destroyed 188 aircraft and damaged 158. They also killed 68 civilians and 2403 military personnel. Every survivor was drenched in oil and was mourning over perished loved ones.
