The ancient Mayans, who lived in parts of present-day Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras, created one of the most complex and advanced civilizations in the Western Hemisphere. The Mayans accomplished many remarkable and influential achievements, most notably, in art, astronomy, and engineering. The achievements of the Mayans influenced the cultures around them and are still influential today.
The mayans and Americans have many similarities and differences. First, the mayans have many cultural differences. Second, us Americans have cultural differences that they would call weird just like how some of us think their beliefs are weird. Finally, we have many similarities with the mayans. To sum it up, we have many similarities and differences with the mayans.
In the Western Hemisphere, no early civilization was more remarkable than the Maya. The Maya are the best-known classical civilizations of Mesoamerica, originating in the state in southeastern Mexico, Yucatan at around 2000 B.C. They rose to importance around A.D. 250 in present-day southern Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, and northern Belize. The Maya civilization was a Mesoamerican civilization developed by the Maya peoples. As being the most remarkable civilization in the Western Hemisphere, the Maya produced an extensive range of structures, and have left a great architectural legacy that places the Maya civilization as one of the great preindustrial civilizations of the world. Maya architecture also incorporates various art forms and hieroglyphic texts. Along with their great architecture, trade was a key component of the Maya
The Mayans’ greatest achievement was neither developing a calendar, nor establishing a complex trade system- but rather, the building of their gigantic cities. But what defines excellency? The answer can be categorized into four sections: significance, scale, genius, and effort. The ancient Mayan civilization thrived in isolation, and it wasn’t until recently that we began to truly appreciate their culture and accomplishments. However, it was their enormous strain many years ago that today results in buildings towering over 130 feet in height. This motivation that drove the mayans nearly 4,000 years ago also produced a variety of remarkable ideas and concepts, many of which we use today.
From the calendars we still use today, to the way we grow crops with farming, ancient civilizations such as the Mayas, the Aztecs, and the Incas influenced and created the way we contribute our skills towards the public. These people’s expertise proves just how they improved the world. The civilizations were advanced for their time based on their early society, their accomplishments, and the remains that are still remembered, as well as viewed to this day.
In the pre-Columbus Americas three societies, the Mayans, Olmecs, and Incas were able to flourish without some of the advanced technology that the Europeans of the time had. Although some of these societies innovations and technology were similar to the Europeans, they were not as advanced or as strong. The way we look at the Mayans, Olmecs, and Incas of this time should be looked at as advanced and intelligent societies.
I believe that the Spanish conquest was quite effective because they achieve their goal of establishing territorial gains. The Spanish also demolished one of earliest civilization in history. In the book it mentions that the Maya knew not to go against the Spanish Masters because their military was much stronger than the Mayan warriors. There were very much loss with the Mayan Empire because of the conquest itself.
The Incas and the Aztecs both fell at the hands of Spanish conquistadors. The Aztecs had a weakness in its empire which was that the Aztec emperor welcomed strangers which was a huge part of their fall. Also the emperor of the Aztecs Moctezuma gave them gifts. The Spaniards left and the came back, and had better weapons then the Aztecs had. They also brought deadly diseases. The Aztecs finally surrendered.
I have chosen the Aztec, Maya, and Inca socities to disscus in my essay. When talking about these three remarkable civilazitions. These strengths stand out in the Maya civilation, as the reading from week three notes “The Maya developed a highly complex series of calendars that were interlinked with each other”. The Inca civilization used what the readings from week four note as “the quipu, a sophisticated system using knots on strings” the quipu was a basic form of doing math in an early civilization. The Aztecs also invented their own form of a calendar as the week four reading also noted “this cosmic progression may have been represented in the mysterious Sun Stone of the Aztecs”. I believe these civilizations main strengths were that they were innovators as
Early civilizations believed to have come from the Asian continent through the Bering Strait about 15,000 BC. It is also believed that some of the people returned to Asia but the migration stopped around 9,000 BC due to the melting of the ice bridge.
The Aztec were had really advanced in their technology compared to other cultures and colonies in the Americas, but not as advanced as the Spanish. The Aztecs had developed many tools, weapons, armour, medicine and canoes. Their technology was so advanced that they were familiar with the wheel, but they only used them in toys. The Aztecs didn’t have any iron or steel like the Spanish; therefore they had to make weapons and tools out make blades for weapons. The Aztec were so advanced with their technology that they were able to develop drills with bones or reeds1.
The Mayas, Incas, and the Aztecs are important in history and are still learned today because they invented many things and had a very unique way of living. Each of these empires were located in different countries, the Mayans were in Guatemala, the Aztecs were in Mexico, and the Incas were in Peru. The Mayan empire lasted from 2,000 BC to 1697 AD, the Incan empire lasted from 1438 AD to 1532, the Aztecs lasted from 1345 AD to 1521. The Aztec, Incas, and Mayas were overall very similar civilizations with very few differences.
Ancient Native Americans civilizations is one of the most interesting civilization in the world. They came from the Asiatic part of Russia. Visiting the museum of natural history made me appreciate their culture and lifestyle. Six Native American tribes settled in North America that lead to the rise and demise of Ancient Native Americans. They were the First Arrivals, Olmec, Teotihuacán, The Mayans, Aztec, and Inca. Each individual civilization had a unique government, housing, foods, leadership, clothing and tools. Furthermore, they settled in the Americas(North, Central, and South) until they were demolished by the Europeans.
Mexico and Central America are both frequently visited places by tourist due to the rich diversity and history. A group of indigenous people who lived in areas of present day parts of Mexico and Central America had one of the most complex and sophisticated civilizations in what was called "Mesoamerica." The Mayan Civilization was one of the most dominate societies of now Mexico and Central America. The Mayan civilization excelled in many remarkable scientific achievements that amaze scholars today. The Mayans are very known for their achievements in mathematics, astrology, agriculture, and even engineering.
The Mayan civilization was a Mesoamerican civilization developed by the Mayan peoples, which stood out in America1 for its hieroglyphic writing, one of the few fully developed writing systems of the pre-Columbian American continent, as well as for its art, architecture and systems of mathematics, astronomy and ecology.2 It was developed in the region that encompasses the southeast of Mexico, corresponding to the states of Yucatan, Campeche, Tabasco, Quintana Roo and eastern Chiapas, as well as in most of Guatemala, Belize, the western part of Honduras and El Salvador. This region is composed of the northern lowlands that encompass the Yucatan peninsula, the highlands of the Sierra Madre that extends through the Mexican state of Chiapas, southern
