In document 3 it says “ The South thus quickly established a rural way of life supported by an agricultural economy based on slave labor.” So if the South lost slavery their economy would fall and the south would be very very poor. So therefore the Southern states left the union because they didn’t want to be poor. In conclusion the Southern states wanted to secede from the union because President Lincoln was elected, Uncle Tom’s Cabin was published, and because slavery was the basis of their community. They were feared that Lincoln would abolish slavery. They didn’t want Southerners to be convinced that slavery is evil.
The two main problems in the south were how do we rebuild the south? And what would we do with the freed slaves? This became big problems that was during the time of reconstruction. I believed that the South killed reconstruction because of violence promoted towards blacks in the South by the Ku Klux Klan. The south wanted to end all reconstruction effort.

In the fall of 1863 General William T. Sherman started planning for the next portion of his battles across the southern states and ending in the Carolinas to try and finally end the Civil War. The campaigns and battles proceeding the spring of 1864 had been conventional warfare, hand to hand and geared more directly at the troops, ships, battery emplacements, and key military facilities.
