The North ended the Reconstruction because they were too busy to look after the South, they were racist to African Americans, and they removed soldiers from Southern states. America was well into the Reconstruction and the nation was happy. The election of 1876 ruined the dreams of over 3 million African Americans. The winner of the election of 1876 was Rutherford B. Hayes. President Hayes was a member of the Democratic party, but actually did not win the election until later.
When he became president he wanted to get rid of paper money, he hated it. Think about it for a minute, if he hated paper money, why should he be on it? He made the removal act against Indians in 1832. The Cherokee felt betrayed because they fought alongside Jackson. He forced them and almost all other Indians to move west.
Roman citizens had come to consideration that they, indeed, did have a poor government. The Roman government gave an unjust life to people based on their social rank (Document E). This led to the citizens not appreciating the government as well as the Empire. Most of the emperors in Rome were assassinated so it gives the citizens the intention that if you did not like the emperor you can just kill them (Document A).This tells the reader that it was hard to govern Rome because they constantly kept replacing emperors.Considering that Rome did not have a stable ruling system, citizens of Rome began to doubt and not depend on their government.
One of the biggest thing that Jackson had done as a president was in 1832. Jackson vetoed a bill that would renew the second bank charter early. Jackson stated “I will kill it!”. He said this because he didn’t like the bank at all and he believed that it made the rich richer and the poor poorer. He said in his veto message “It is easy to conceive that great evils to our country and its institutions might flow from such a concentration of power in the hands of a few men irresponsible to the people.” He is saying that the bank is being taken over by the rich and that the bank isn’t helping the common men at all.
The south wanted to end all reconstruction effort. The south killed reconstruction because of their lack of interest in equal rights, their violence towards the north and blacks. “He was stabbed five or six
This proved to be the worst precedent that Jackson set. Andrew Jackson was a bad president because he only cared about what he liked and disliked. He disliked the Natives not moving so he moved them by force and in the process killed many. He did not like what the National Bank represented so he destroyed it thereby sending the country into a depression. He liked putting his friends in power so he did even if they were out of touch with the common man.
Was the Reign of Terror justified? The Reign of Terror was one of the worst times in world history. This was a period of time when thousands of people were being executed for unfair reasons because of Robespierre- an absolute monarch who believed that torture and terror were required to have a strong constitutional law. The reign of terror was not justified because Enlightenment ideas were ignored, the rights of the common people were violated, and the methods of punishment were too harsh. The first reason as to why the Reign of Terror was not justified is because Enlightenment ideas were ignored.
The first is the leak of DeLome Letter from Spanish minister in Washington, Dupuy du Lome to the press. This letter criticized President McKinley for being “weak” and labelled him as a “would-be politician” and a “jingoist” . This letter was considered an insult to the president and the nation and further outraged the Americans toward Spain. The second immediate cause is the explosion of U.S.S Maine in Havana harbor which killed 2 officers and 258 crewmen. Even though the culprit behind this was unknown, the Yellow Journalism had successfully shaped public opinions to blame Spain for this incident and to demand the war with Spain.
I strongly agree with Robert’s claim. McCarthyism resulted in Americans turning against each other because of politicians greed for power, paranoia, and the fear of communist infiltration. Clearly, Senator McCarthy’s greed for political power led to American citizens’ unrest. In Arthur Miller’s “The Crucible”, John Proctor dealt with the corruption of power in his town when Abigail Williams and many other girls accused those, who were innocent, of witchcraft. Similarly, americans were being blacklisted by McCarthy because they believed these people may have
As evidenced through past political figures, when an individual holds an abundant amount of power it only results in their own downfall. Corruption, the defining factor of their downfall, is dishonest or illegal behavior especially by powerful people (such as government officials or police officers) (Merriam-Webster). The theme of corruption is explored throughout The Tragedy of Macbeth. Shortly after Macbeth becomes king his conscience slowly starts to deteriorate as he orders the death of others. Through his actions, Macbeth soon becomes known as a tyrant.
