Abstract - This paper focuses on testing of Permanent Magnet DC Motor (12V) and measuring both electrical and environmental parameters. The PMDC Motor that this work focuses is applied in car engines for mixing the air and fuel in the appropriate ratio as per the specification. The testing of motors is required because the motor may be constructed using some bad quality products such as worn out windings etc. This will in turn cause the motor to perform in a poor manner. Such bad parts are spotted and using the testing process. In addition to this maintenance costs involved with the motor are also reduced. Also this new testing method will perform the electrical parameter testing in a rotary manner so that the cycle time is reduced to six …show more content…

Basic working principle of DC motor is based on the fact that whenever a current carrying conductor is placed inside a magnetic field, mechanical force is experienced by that conductor whose direction isgiven by Fleming' s Left-hand Rule and whose magnitude is given by F=BIL Newton. Hence for constructing a dc motor it is essential to establish a magnetic field. The magnetic field is established by means of magnet. The magnet can be of any type 1) electromagnet or 2) permanent magnet. When permanent magnet is used to create magnetic field in a DC motor, the motor is referred as Permanent magnet DC motor or PMDC motor. As the magnetic field strength of a permanent magnet is fixed it cannot be controlled externally, field control of this type of dc motor cannot be possible. Thus permanent magnet dc motor is used where there is no need of speed control of motor by means of controlling its field. These motors are commonly used as starter motor in automobiles, windshield wipers, washer, for blowers used in heaters and air conditioners, to raise and lower windows, it also extensively used in …show more content…

Hence the above test piece was declared as failed specimen. 5. CONCLUSION Based on the specifications provided by the customer depending on the area of application of motor, we learnt to carry out both the electrical parameter testing and environmental adaptability testing. By doing so, we were able to spot the bad parts in the motor and ensure only the efficient motor are delivered to the customer. This will also ensure complete safety and satisfaction to the customers. In addition to the above, the maintenance cost involved with the motor was also reduced.
