During the 1700s the Enlightenment ideas became very popular, because they stood for change and improvements. The people of France wanted change and the Americans wanted change. They decided to do something about it by writing The Declaration of Independence and the Declaration of the Rights of Man. Not only did people have the idea to split from their government but they also petitioned for more rights. The Declaration of Independence was created in 1776. It states the new rules and the new government that the colonists wanted in America. For example, one of the new laws was that all men are created equal. Another law was that people have the right to change the government if need be. This document also includes what the King did to create this separation. Furthermore, it has a section that rants about what stupid and unfair things the King did to his people. They were no longer going to be controlled by the King. The Declaration of Independence was so agreed upon that people kept on following its laws and still abide by them today. Now, since the Declaration of Independence was written and published first, the Declaration of the Rights of Man adopted some of the laws from the American document. Another difference between the two is that the Declaration of Independence was written to write the king off. They wanted to have a democracy, not a monarchy. The Declaration of the Rights of Man was created to improve their government, not get rid of the King. Although, these two documents have similarities too. They both believe that people have the right to be happy, the right of liberty, and the right of life. Lastly, they don’t really tell wether or not these laws apply to everyone. They don’t specifically say that women or people of different skin colors, etc. have these
