Decathlon, one of the world’s largest sporting goods manufacturer and retailer, specializes in four major products: sport clothing, sport equipment, sport accessories and sport food, an outstanding French company, founded by Michel Leclercq with his great idea of selling all sports goods under a single roof. Decathlon started its first store in Lille, France in 1976 and became the first sport retailer who sells its sports goods in a self-service way and quick purchase concept through helping customer locate the products they need in such a huge store by logical layout, demonstrating signs and posters. At that time, it had already won great popularity by French people, and then it started to expand all over France. About a decade later, it began to expand all over Europe such as Germany in 1986, Spain in 1992, Italy in 1998, Portugal, and the United Kingdom in 1999. By 2009 Decathlon with more than 400 stores had become the top ranking sports retailer in Europe with global sales ranked number 2 among worldwide sports retailers. In 20’s Decathlon began to develop its international market. It came to China in 2003, India in 2009 and Southeast Asia in 2012. Today, Decathlon has already become a multinational corporation. There are more than 1000 stores in over 27 countries. The company employs more than 60,000 staff from 80 different nationalities.
