In manufacturing industries, defect in product is something that cannot easily be avoided and it is usually occurs during the process of producing the products. A product defect can be defined as product with flaw or its not in a required condition and do not fullfil the expected requirement. Defects in manufacturing occur when a product is improperly manufactured and departs from its intended design. It is also can be categorized as a production failure. This can affect overall cost of company production since the flaw product will be downgraded. If this happens, the firm need to rework on the produt in order to fullfil the customer expectation (Ahmad, Ahmad, & Muhammad, 2014). There are four main factors that cause defects, human carelessness, low quality of raw materials, machines that required maintenances and improper work procedures (Talib, & Karim, 2011). In recent years, many research works have been conducted on the factors that affect the quality of product in the mechanical manufacture. The quality of a machined part is estimated based on its …show more content…
This is particularly so for small firms. They need to become more involved in innovation and technology based activities (Charoenrat, Harvie, & Amornkitvikai, 2013). According to Hashim and Abdullah (2000), SMEs in Malaysia can be separated into three main sectors such as general business, manufacturing and agriculture. This study will be focused on manufacturing SMEs. In Malaysia, according to Small and Medium Enterprises Corporation Malaysia (SMECORP, 2008), firms that employ between 50-150 full time employees are considered as medium while those that employ between 5-50 are called small and less than 5 are considered as micro enterprises. These SMEs are further categorized into medium-sized companies, small enterprises and
I think that the book Spare Parts was an excellent book for the NIACC Composition 1 common read. Living in northern Iowa, we are very closed off to the rest of the world and what others might be facing. The immigration problem doesn’t phase us because we don’t hear of it that often in Iowa, so it was interesting to learn about it through a book. Teens my age don’t usually read books besides the popular fiction genre so it was insightful to see problems that other people are facing. Spare parts has an interesting plot, a unique theme, and a wide range of vocabulary which are all reasons why this book is a good choice for the common read.
Some Lessons from the Assembly Line After reading through Some Lessons from The Assembly Line by Andrew Braaksma, I first believed that the main point of the story is to describe the author's experiences with Blue-collar work and college. One of the things I find interesting about this is how the author chooses to explain his thoughts on the topic via describing his own life experiences. By showing us his experiences with both, we're able to understand just how much of a discrepancy there is between blue-collar and college life. I reread the article and now believe that the main point is to show college students not only why college is important, but also how hard the alternative to college blue-collar life can be . The article's
The United States of America is one of the most technologically and industrially advanced nations in the world, but that was not always the case. At the start of the Civil War in 1861 the United States was little more than a nation of farmers, but by the time the Spanish-American war began in 1898 the country was one of the most advanced nations in the world. This begs the question, what exactly enabled the United States to be able to industrialize so quickly and efficiently? The industrial growth in the United States of America during the late 1800’s was caused by entrepreneurs, an evolving population, and government assistance.
The inner moral compulsion to obey is what drives most social organizations. Sykes (2007) described several structural defects that occurred in the New Jersey State prison. Sykes (2007) argues that power in prison is not based on authority therefore prison officials have to find other means to get prisoners to abide by the rules and regulations. The ability to use force to maintain order on a large scale in the prison is an illusion. According to Sykes (2007), Certain privileges such mailing and visiting, personal possessions, time-off for good behavior etc. are given to the inmate all at once upon his or her arrival to the prison.
The Flaws in Modern System Beliefs Dovskeyesky uses Rodya and Svidrigailov highlight the flaws in Nihilistic beliefs and expose how the Nihilist's ultimate goal is to be viewed as superior and to accomplish Nihilist inner idea of elevated self-worth and how Sonya is the book’s symbol of morality and Christianity and how her beliefs helped to highlight these flaws even more. Crime and Punishment uses its most faulty characters to show us all the problems with Nihilism and the extreme effects that it can have live life based off of these beliefs. Both Rodya and Porfy had huge problems because of their self-centered belief they struggled both externally and internally because they felt as if they did not have to answer to anyone. The first
Some lessons from the Assembly Line by Andrew Braaksma is an article describing the authors motivation for taking school seriously. In his article Braaksma, identifies the work he chooses to carry out during summer months to be utter "torture" compared to campus life. Although he describes the jobs in such manner he admits he learns valuable lessons from his experience as well as his temporary coworkers who often remind him to keep studying. Braaksmas article is an excellent piece to read when you find yourself slacking in your studies. The point is clear in which Braaksma is conveying.
Question 1. The first step I am going to take as the new safety manager of Dosit to bring them up to compliance with the Hazard Communication Standard would be to conduct an extensive chemical inventory check. The current chemical inventory list of 780 chemicals is over two years old and is outdated by a year. Periodic chemical inventory audits should be done at least once a year(David Fender,2012).
Quality product is critical to just-in-time (JIT) purchasing system. Poor product quality from a supplier can disrupt the entire supply chain and result in expensive production. If Bose corporation receives a poor-quality that they need to send back to the supplier, entire Bose’s production processes disrupted. Such occurrences can shut down production line in some cases. Since Bose uses JIT system which minimizes inventory.
2.1 Describe how sales and consumer-related legislation and regulations affect the delivery of customer service When you sell a product to a customer, you are entering an agreement or contract with them. Under the Sale of Goods Act 1979. A customer has legal rights if the goods they purchased from you do not 'conform to contract' - ie if they are faulty or broken. Under the Consumer Rights Act, in order to ensure your products conform to contract, they should: • match their description - by law, everything that is said about the product must not be misleading, including whether it is said by a sales assistant, or written on the packaging, on advertising materials, in-store or in a catalogue • Be of satisfactory quality - including being
2. Total quality Management According to the Harvard business school professor David A. Garvin, the quality of a product is based on eight important dimensions which are: performance, features, reliability, conformance, durability, serviceability, aesthetics and perceived quality . The PRADA Group is particularly known for the outstanding quality of its manufacturing processes, and for its excellent raw materials, which are the main determinates to its successful high quality products. The Marketing

Then, companies can charge a higher price because of that. Whereas, from the quality as reliability perspective, customers want a product that performs as it was intended and can last. The product or service has to appeal to the customer and make them want your product over another. Companies will be more profitable because their products are more reliable, then they will have less defected products. In return, less time and money are spent fixing those mistakes.
