For as long as I can remember, I have always tried my best to be a decent person. To me that means being honest, friendly, nice, and most of all, kind. I never cared about being cool, whatever that is. However, as time went by, I noticed that being cool was a trend. Everyone sought to be cooler than the other, and sometimes this meant doing the opposite of what I had always assumed to be right, being mean or hateful. This makes no sense to me. In my life I have gathered countless memories of when being kind was just a cool thing to do. Along with that, I’ve read about how being kind was the new cool, and have experienced these moments in life that truly taught me that being kind was just the way to go. Now, kindness is praised, and being praised for anything is genuinely cool. Also, being kind is more than just how you act all the time, it is how you react to certain things and situations, how you deal with your problems. Kindness is cool, and I can prove that through my own personal experiences. …show more content…
A person of a good or benevolent nature or disposition. In other words, someone who is affectionate, friendly, and considerate. However, with these traits come its opposites. People who are rude, cruel, or hateful. Now, let us take a look at what “cool” means. I think there are a few definitions for the word, but essentially it would just mean someone that is laid back, easy going, and a person that people would want to associate themselves with. This brings me to a question, would you rather surround yourself with someone who is friendly and kind or someone who is hateful and rude? Of course you would rather hang out with the nice, decent person. This leads me to believe that being a kind person can be thought of as a natural cool, since people would rather associate themselves with someone who is courteous and graceful because they feel accepted and genuinely happy around that
Kindness does come with age according to Saunders, but that should not stop a young college graduate from focusing their mindset on being compassionate. Saunders conceived the idea that kindness can change the world and start the revolution of selflessness.
The concept of being nice to people, even if someone does not particularly like them or isn’t fond of them, has been drilled into my head for the longest time. Teachers today even bring up that I should be nice to those I don’t like as if it is a childish concept. I have learned that being nice to other people is what I should do because it is what is
Living in a modern world many people get well educated and are making good changes in the world. But are we forgetting something in our busy society? George Saunders talks about the importance of kindness in his commencement address. Saunders is an American writer and university professor who made the commencement address at Syracuse University in New York state in may 2013. This essay will focus on the style of Saunders’ language and on the values he advocates in his speech.
I love seeing others at their best. I care for an infinite number of people and often put others before myself. If the cost of someone’s happiness is for me to lose some sleep, stay up late with them, purchase a little surprise, or send them an encouraging note, it is all worth it to me. A time I was kindhearted was when I volunteered my time to help the Oklahoma Democratic Party. At the Carl Albert State Dinner, I served as an usher get a behind the scenes look at what helps the party run.
So constantly being kind and showing those kind emotions can show your character and build a reputation that you can uphold. In his quote, Elie Wiesel stated “Even on the edge of the abyss, it is possible to dream exalted dreams of compassion.” I believe he talked about
David Foster Wallace has presented a commencement speech in Kenyon College on May 21, 2005. Kenyon College is a small private liberal art college in Ohio. His speech This is Water: Some Thoughts, Delivered on a Significant Occasion about Living a Compassionate Life was twenty-two minutes long and within that time it was motivational, emotional, and he made numerous recommendations for how to live your life. Wallace explains what he believes is the most important benefits of a college education. He wanted to send a message to the graduating college students that we can make the world a better place by being more self-aware and by being concerned for the well being of others because helping others won’t ever be damaging to society.
Kindness is one trait every individual desires to be treated with by others. It is , after all, the state of warm welcoming that helps us assimilate in a society. Besides, no one likes the feeling of getting rejected by a particular group based on their different backgrounds, culture, physique and/or experiences. The only way that perhaps heels this rejection ,due to the difference's in an individual, are the acts of when an another individual presents and treats others with their acts of benevolence. This act then also sheds a new light on an other individual's perspective, and gives them the knowledge to assert what they think is right for them to obtain their objectives.
I have the standard set of beliefs as most people; don’t do anything illegal or to harm anyone, be a decent person, help those who need it. However, I’ve struggled most with the old adage of “treat others as you want to be treated”. It seemed simple enough to me as a child, and thus I began to do just as the age-old advice said. In most instances I have gotten what I’ve expected in return. My grades reflect my efforts at school, the treatment of me by my sister was indicative of how many names I had called her that day.
My entire life has changed due to my kindness. Therefore, should I no longer be kind? Why offer my assistance to others if the outcome is penalization? These questions torment my mind; do I acknowledge what's happening around me, or should I just drive by? All I wanted to do was help people, and now, all I do is suffer.
If I had one operating philosophy about life, it is this: “Be cool to the pizza delivery dude; it’s good luck.” This quote supplied by Sarah Adams, not only reflects upon the simplistic aspects of life, but also contradicts the overall mindset that consumes our society today. This essay, with its strong use of civic virtues, gave me as the reader, a new look into how I live my everyday life and how I tend to deal with the situations I have at hand. In the essay, “Be Cool to the Pizza Dude” by Sarah Adams, the use of ongoing kindness and compassion provides insight into the value of human life, that connected with me through an intellectual, emotional, and personal standpoint.
Is Jonas’s society different than ours? Utopian (N) an imagined place or state of things in which everything is perfect. The key word there is ‘imagined’ as we haved learned in The Giver that not everything can be perfect; it 's just limiting the being of a human. By having such limitations, the people can’t hold their memories, can’t see color, and the government chooses their family. Jonas’s society is vastly different than ours in various ways.
The story brings to light the changing colours of kindness depending of the situation. “kindness is an inner desire that makes us want to do good things even if we do not get anything in return. It is the joy of our life to do them. when we do good things from this inner desire, there is kindness in everything we think, say, want to do. it enters about four day storm of rain.
Expanding kindness to all things is the trickiest part. But it can be done. Saunders mentions the most respectable names in history as an example of kindness like Gandhi, Mother Teresa, and Shakespeare. Kindness is what saves each of us. Each of us can recall the random act of kindness that was done to each of us.
In school, if I treat a teacher with respect, they might favor bumping your grade up from a high B+ to an A-. When I make friends, I have to be respectful as well. If I act rude and condescending, then no one would want to be my friend. As humans, we are heavily social animals and our level of success in our lives depend on how well we can work with others. Having respect is a major aspect of this social interaction, making it very important.
In today’s time with people coming and going, remembering and forgetting everything, kindness is deemed to be one of the remembered and forgotten characteristics of the world and Christians. For many people if you were to try to learn kindness it would be very hard to find someone in the midst of our world to learn it from. Furthermore, what it means to be kind and how to be kind. Kindness is defined in Webster’s Dictionary as showing a friendly, generous and considerate character.
