What is something everyone expects, few people have and even fewer people are willing to give? Respect. Respect is a dwindling concept in today’s world. It is rarely seen in today’s society and is leading to a rude and ugly community. Respect can be defined as a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities or achievements. Respect is the beating heart of all relationships. Whether used in the work force or in the personal life it is mandatory for a healthy relationship. To many people it is all about how you are treated and how you treat others. Being defined as “Respect is a way of treating another person with kindness out of concern for the individual's feelings.” (“Respect”). Although to some, this word alone has a very strong emotional tie. As sang in the 1967 Aretha Franklin rendition of the song “Respect”, we can see that this concept is tied to very strong emotions, singing out R-E-S-P-E-C-T. This is what is expected! So many people felt such a strong relationship to this song that the song is known worldwide and is said to have jump started Mrs. Franklins career. Respect is something that when we give it, we usually gain it in return. Many individuals have respect for others due to the admiration they have been shown. When a person has been admired for being a hard worker or a reliable friend, respect is what is returned. As a child, many are taught that you respect yourself, others, the elderly and others property. Respect is a word that has a lot of depth to it no matter what way you use it. The word by definition is kind of hard to pin down concretely because it is subjective, and it can be used in many different ways with many different meanings based on the usage. It is a word that everybody wants a piece of no matter how big or small the piece they get is. All definitions aside, the respect that most people want is the respect that is earned by the showing of honorable actions or personality characteristics. Be it dedication and sacrifices for one’s job or ones moral and ethical views and principles.
Respect honors the worth of an individual no matter who they are. Likewise, equity involves fairness to all regardless of their weaknesses. Equity requires the quality of fairness, and not taking advantage of those lesser. These two ethical values have been transgressed by society in both cases because they targeted those who were inferior, punished even the innocent and selfishly abused their targets. To prevent the occurrence of alienation of social groups in the future, one must interact with others through respect and equity.

The honor code is used to keep students from making bad decisions educational wise, for example, cheating and plagiarism, therefore, the honor is used to keep students inside the behavioral codes that the honor code has to offer. The honor code is very controversial because of the codes that the system delivers. The system is very influential to the students and creates a behavioral impact that allows the students to follow by the codes and to have complete freedom.
