Definition Essay: What Thanksgiving Means To Me

Stores should not be open on thanksgiving/Black Friday. Even though It is very good for the stores to be open on Black Friday/Thanksgiving, stores should not be open on Thanksgiving because it affects lots of people by being open. People are very dangerous on Black Friday and there have been 7 deaths plus 98 injuries because of Black Friday.

Hosting Thanksgiving was always a tradition at my house. We would always have my family down at my house every year for as far back as I can remember. That is, until this year. This year, my family and I went down to South Carolina for Thanksgiving. It was a blast! We stayed on a resort, and the nearest golf club made dinner for everyone on the resort. All we had to do was pick it up. I was out with my father and two brothers, named Christopher and Stephen, going for a driving tour of the surrounding areas nearest the resort. The tour was extremely scenic, with palmetto trees everywhere. I just so happened to be looking out the window and said a little too loudly, “STOP!”.

Thanksgiving is the most stimulating holiday. There is an extreme amount of food to see, smell and taste, along with emotions associated with seeing family. The whole feeling of Thanksgiving is warmer and different than most holidays.

The way people have celebrated Thanksgiving has changed over the years. The first people to celebrate Thanksgiving were the Indians and Pilgrims. They had a large, traditional feast. Today, families celebrate Thanksgiving in different ways that are more modern and fit their lifestyle.

Thanksgiving a time where people sit around the table and be thankful for the things they have. However, many people know of how it became a holiday, but people don’t know is who started this holiday. The man who had started Thanksgiving was named William Bradford; It started from his marriage ceremony in the New World where the (Johnson) Wampanoags Native Americans (Whitehurst and Ruffin 18) brought over turkeys and deer to feast on (Johnson). William Bradford was the second governor of Plymouth for his wisdom and leadership; he ran for governor for thirty years with a five year break. To learn more about this person and how important this man was to the pilgrims we have to look at his childhood, Adulthood, and his role as governor.

In 1621 November 24, Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag indians shared a feast in Autumn for the celebration in the colonies. For about 2 centuries America has celebrated Thanksgiving.It is a holiday for everyone to give thanks and the pilgrims.

Thanksgiving is always big for us. I would generally spend hours in the kitchen making sure everything is ready. This year we won't be hosting, but that doesn't mean that our meals aren't going to be extravagant. It's just what we do. I have a big family, and they all have different taste in food. My oldest is a vegetarian, so for her there is a fish made, while Madison, Mikael and I just LOVE Cornish Hens. My husband has to have his ham while Kyle is all about the turkey, and let's not

What I was taught as a kid about pilgrims and thanksgiving is very misleading. In elementary, I like most kids. Where taught that Christopher Columbus sailed from Europe to the Americas on three ships. Soon after arrival. The English/pilgrim’s made allies with the natives, made homes. And began a huge feast. But this is not completely true.

My perspective on Thanksgiving had completely changed after reading this article. I truly believed that Thanksgiving was a happy time, a time of thanks and a celebration of the first harvest. People today celebrate Thanksgiving as a time to get together with loved ones, have a big dinner, to give thanks and go shopping.

Thanksgiving is a big deal to Americans,it’s a holiday where you get together with your family and celebrate what you are thankful for.Everyone celebrates Thanksgiving in there own way.Everyone has their own traditions,and foods.My Thanksgiving is very different from others,but it is also similar in some ways.

The first event that influenced the celebration of Thanksgiving as we now celebrate was black Friday. At black Friday, most of the stores would on sale, so we could bought the much cheap things during the black Friday and if the family are not cheap, that's the greatest thing in the whole year.

Americans celebrate holidays every other month. An American holiday is Veterans Day. Veterans Day happens every year on the day of November 11. It 's a day to recognize, remember, and honor US troops who are currently serving the Armed forces of the United States or for those who have finished serving their time in the military. Due to Veterans Day being a federal holiday, majority of Americans get the day off so they can celebrate the day. People have cookouts, BBQs, parties, community events, and much more to remind Americans that they live in the land of the free, because of our military veterans. You will also see Veterans Day sales specifically to offer lower priced goods to Americans. This is to show appreciation to those who have served. The whole objective of veterans day was to raise awareness to fellow Americans about those brave and heroic troops who have sacrificed their lives. Throughout the 1900s George Washington 's day of birth was celebrated on February 22, but slowly emerged into President 's Day, which is a festivity day for Americans, because they celebrate the Presidents that have served as our leaders.

The importance of Thanksgiving is good because it gives you time to spend with family or friends. It can be good because it also gives you a chance to say what you are thankful for. It also give you a chance to reconnect with family, like say if you and a family member/friend are fighting and it's a really big fight and thanksgiving allows you to make peace with your family/friend.

Some people attend parties, feasts, or even carnivals for Thanksgiving. On the other hand, I am kind of different. I love to spend time with my family making arts and crafts. My mom usually makes a feast at home and cooks my favorite Indian dishes. My parents, my sister and I find some type of entertainment to get our family to spend time together. I text my friends who are in different states and I spend some time with them on Facetime too.
