Soren Kierkegaard once wrote in a book called Either/Or Part II that, “Someone can conquer kingdoms and countries without being a hero; someone else can prove himself a hero by controlling his temper. Someone can display courage by doing the out-of-the-ordinary, another by doing the ordinary….” In other words, heroes can be anyone by what little they do to what big they do for society (wikiquotes).Soren Kierkegaard was a Danish existentialist philosopher, and religious author. Both men were fighting in the civil war, although one was a president and the other was a writer, teacher, and a former slave. While Lincoln was living a wealthy white man lifestyle, Douglass was living as a low class person who was involved in the civil war. In addition, Abraham had great power and a bigger voice, unlike Frederick who had no power and no voice at all. In “White House Funeral Sermon for Abraham Lincoln”, the author described Lincoln as a”beloved President.” I think he said this about Lincoln because he believed no will get close of making a change like Lincoln. In”Frederick Douglass”, the author described Douglass as” This man, superb in love and logic, this man shall be remebered.” I think this is true because what Douglass did back then has a huge affect on our life today. These two men from history of the United States acted heroically in their century, and we still respect and revere their actions today, almost 200 years …show more content…
A hero is not someone who is selfish. A hero is not someone to wants others to fail but with someone who wants people to get farther than they have ever gotten. For example, a person who sees a homeless person or animal. A hero would give some food to the homeless or take home the animal to find a home for it. A hero wouldn’t spit at the homeless person or would never kick the animal. A hero is a person who treats everyone or everything with respect. Furthermore, a hero is not selfish, they aren’t someone who wants to others to fail, and a hero is not someone who doesn’t sacrifice anything for
Both Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln were effective leaders, but in their own ways. In “Waiting for Mr. Lincoln,” Russel Freedman tells us about how they both faced challenges growing up and made many important decisions that helped abolish slavery in the United States. In “Waiting for Mr. Lincoln”, Douglass showed his courage and determination as a leader. He walked into the White House unannounced and requested an audience with the president, despite the fact that he was a black man in a time during which millions of black people were still enslaved.
Sure, I got time The Websters dictionary defines a hero as someone who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Heroes are ordinary people who find the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles. They are the real heroes, and so are the families and friends who have stood by them. Maya Angelou stated, “I think a hero is any person really intent on making this world a better place for all people.”
Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass were heroic men who fought for freedom for all people. Many people were influenced by Lincoln and Douglass, Lincoln was able to speak about how slavery was horrid and Douglass was able to tell people about how it was to be a slave. “I felt like one who had escaped a den of hungry lions.” (SB p. 71) Douglass gave an image to people who hadn’t seen the evil of slavery for themselves. People were able to look up to Lincoln as a leader, as a captain who could lead them through the tough times of civil war.
Douglass was a past slave, and had powerful reason for needing to abolish slavery. Meanwhile, Lincoln was taught in the church about the beliefs about the conflicts of slavery
What is a hero? A hero is a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities. There are many people who meet the characteristics of a hero, but Chris McCandless is not one of them. There are many reasons that prove why McCandless does not meet the characteristics of a hero and there is many other people who do meet the criteria of a hero. My idea of a hero is a someone who takes on large tasks and shows great bravery in his/her character.
Many know about his relationship with President Abraham Lincoln, the abolition heavy President. Frederick helped convince President Lincoln that African Americans should fight in the Civil War, this was to show blacks also wanted to help their fellow Americans in the war for their freedom. This move of Presidential backing helped many African Americans from his era realize there was hope to be African American in the United States. Douglas’s actions showed blacks aren’t horrible and animals as most saw them, but were patriots and wanted to prosper just as much as everyone else did. This positive outlook for blacks helped many realize slavery was not the right way to run the country, this helped many more Americans become abolitionists and fighters for civil rights.
What makes a hero? A hero is someone who is willing to take a chance on something. Someone who can be strong and courageous to accomplish something. Someone who can complete a task and change a whole country. That is a hero.
He is documented as having had a sharp tone with President Lincoln upon their first meeting, and he rebuked him harshly for his slow-emancipation philosophy. After months of building a friendship with Lincoln, though, Douglass came to respect and see the legitimacy of his position more and more as their arguments became increasingly friendly and persuasive. This relationship caused Douglass to be a more open-minded and cooperative abolitionist. He wanted liberty for all, and he wanted it done lawfully and peacefully, just as did “The black man’s
A famous actor Christopher Reeve once said, “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to preserve and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” Being heroic does not always mean you’re special or well known. Since a hero shows determination, it drives them to help others and go beyond what’s expected of them. Heroes are people who go beyond expectations.
American actor Christopher Reeve once quoted, "A hero is an ordinary individual who finds strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles" (Brainy Quote). Not only did he play a hero as Superman, he truly became one in his personal life. After becoming a quadriplegic Reeve became a spokesperson for people with spinal cord injuries. A hero is a person one admires because of the qualities and selfless actions they exemplify to overcome adversity and inspire others. Heroism is apparent in literature, history, and in our own life.
A hero is anyone who makes the right decision to sacrifice for a person in need. For example, without heroes like firemen, wildfires and house fires would spread across the nation, costing lives and loss of worldly possessions. Firemen stand strong, risk themselves, and protect all for the well-being, safety of others, and personal property. In addition,
He was inspiring the fame of being a presusaive writer and speaker he then moved on the bigger and better things he didn’t let his past get in the way of his future. He talked mainly about racism and slavery he wanted to end both of those things. Frederick Douglass was a man who also knew what he wanted he wanted to be free! He wanted to end racism he wanted to end slavery he didn’t want to be a slave all his life and by using the underground railroad he was able to escape. We are able to be free because people like Frederick Douglass who wasn’t afraid to speak up and say what they wanted to say and by doing that we have what we have today.
There are various approaches to describing a hero. There is also an infinite number of individuals who can be defined as heroes. A hero can be a person who demonstrates valor. A hero can be a champion. A hero can even save a life or even mankind.
Doing a brave task, being a doctor, being a rich person, or even having a certain name does not make you a hero. It is very hard to describe a hero but a simple description of a true hero is a person that is being true to himself, does things that has to be done no matter what the circumstances are, never afraid to do what is right, and gives the best sincerely. In my point of view, true heroes exist in our world, and they are needed to protect us from the society we are living in and ourselves. Many people regularly ask why we need heroes. Simply the answer is that heroes give us hope, solve problems, and pick us up when we are down.
To me, a hero is someone who gives everything they have to assure the happiness of others and a hero is also someone who gives up his life or her life so someone else could live. In all honesty, a hero isn’t really what we think a “hero” is based on definitions and what the movies or even comic books have told us. Anyone can be
