When people think of America one of the first things that comes to mind is freedom. I personally think that freedom describes our country in a great way because that is one of the ideas that our country was built on. It gives us the right to make the choices we want, think what we want to think, and do what we want to do within the limits of the law. I think that in our country Freedom is often overlooked and some people often misuse it. In this day and age it is important to notice how people abuse freedom, what freedom looks like, and why freedom is important to the people of this country.
Most people think that being an American is something we are born with. Or this is just a so-called “status.” An American is not just a legalized citizen of the United States. It’s actually more than that. To be an American, it means having the ability to exhibit your own freedom of speech and self-expression, hard work, and multiculture without others taking it away from you. We tend to do things on another level that most people from other countries can't.
“Freedom.” You may hear this word a lot during history, speeches, and even from your parents. You mainly hear this word from people who believe that we should have our own rights. However freedom can be perceived in many different ways some people may take it too far. The question is “What Does Freedom Mean to You?” “Freedom of speech.” It means a lot to me because, we have the right to say what we want. The write to express any opinions without censorship or restraint.
What it means to be an American is that you have the freedom to vote freedom of speech. You have the liberty to be what you want in America no one chooses for you. Also have the liberty to work wherever you want not be someone 's slave. Being American means you don 't have to hide your religion, the color of your skin or your sex. You have the ability to speak what you want.
Being an American means that almost anyone can run for government positions. Being an American means that if you don’t like the laws, you work to change them through politics. Being an American means dreaming bigger than reason, and working to fulfill that dream. Being an American also means that while you are free to disagree with America’s government and political figures, you realize that America is trying it’s best, and you respect that. Americans know
They deserve a judge case because we went over the jury bias of people and how white males are preferred over black females. There should be only a small amount of crimes that has the death penalty allowed as a punishment such as rape or murder. We have said that having the death penalty will not deter crime but we can say the same thing about anything. If we outlaw guns it will not deter crime. If we outlaw alcohol it won’t stop people from bringing it in to the USA.
“America was born out of a desire for self-determination, a longing for the human dignity that only independence can bring.” Maurice Saatchi may be British, but his quote about America exemplifies what the country stands for. America is not an Anthem society because we value individualism, not collectivism. We are free to express ourselves, no matter what we think. We are free to learn what we want. We are free to live for ourselves and be who we want.
I think that black lives matter too because everybody is important and should get treated the same way and just because one black person does something doesn't mean all black people are bad people. Like if a black person robs a store or something people think that all black people are that way but we aren't because there are some people that rob stores and commit crimes too that aren't black. That's why i think that people are making such a big deal about it and especially the things that happened in the past that's what really makes it bad like if none of that happened then it probably wouldn't be such a big deal about whenever black people get shot by a white person or something. And people think we run from the cops because we did something bad. No that's not everybody's reason the real reason is because they might be scared that they are gonna get there life taken away for no reason or they gonna get shot or something.
But let me take a step back and ask you, do you really know the definition of freedom is? I thought I knew the answer to this question, that freedom is a right to do and believe in anything, but I knew it wasn’t that simple and learned by writing this essay what freedom means to me.
Today, freedom is the cornerstone of what it means to be an American. When asked what they thought it was to be an American, most people would reply with an answer about how, as an American, they had the right to be free. Whether it be the freedom to practice any religion (just like the pilgrims fought for), or it be the freedom to speak freely without fear of an oppressive government. When the pilgrims achieved this freedom, they set forth the idea that an American, at their very core, had the right to be free. Without this value, the landscape of modern society, as well as what it means to be an American, might look very different.
