Leadership is the foundation of an organization, be it private, governmental or public. It is a top down process. It is a big responsibility upon which an organization is based on.
There are different leadership attributes, some good and some bad. More than 400 definitions of leadership exist in the literature, (King & Cunningham, 1995), and numerous frameworks have been developed for understanding leadership styles and approaches, (Merson, 2011). Good leadership attributes are not inherited but developed through self-discipline and through time and pressure. They are the result of instruction, commitment and deep concern for what is right for the benefit of others. They are modelled on a daily basis, tested and proven in times of trial and

To have the team working towards the same goal, the mission and vision should be communicated clearly. So that employees know what they are doing and what is expected from them, giving their best efforts.
Delegation relieves the leader from exhaustion and stress. It is a sign of strength in leadership and encourages employees live to expectations. It also helps to assess which strength and weakness employees have, which is essential to differentiate which tasks they will fit best. Successful delegation increases productivity and quality of work.
A leader alone cannot perform all the tasks given, it should be delegated to concerned colleagues or subordinates. At the same time, delegation of authority will divide the works among workers with providing authority and responsibility. As such delegation of authority will have an effective result (Management Study Guide, 2013).
Showing your commitment, sets the example for others to follow, leading to greater loyalty and respect. The approval and respect of a leader highly depends on the commitment he has on work-plans and time schedules. Employees generally follow a committed

No matter what happens I should be calm and confident to be an example for the team. Lack of humor can be tackled by creating a playful work environment and get together sessions. A smiling face relieves stress and encourages employees to open for discussion and ideas which will enhance productivity. "A sense of humor is part of the art of leadership, of getting along with people, of getting things done." Dwight D. Eisenhower. When leaders use humor effectively it becomes valuable as much as it attracts attention, provokes thought, wins friends, enhances communication, helps deal with difficult moments, helps one to develop positive self-esteem, creates motivation and energy. Productivity of the work-force makes the organization and the leader effective. And without humor is exactly the opposite (Johnson, no
In today’s age, there has never been more political correctness in our country. If someone says something that offends anyone, regardless of its factuality or veracity, they will be questioned and challenged. Because of this borderline-censorship, we must still have a way to engage audiences and get our point across. Humor provides this. Humorists are able to dive into topics that can be very polarizing and, with the way they communicate, can bring people together while expressing certain opinions.
Humor is the ingredient that keeps it all moving, holds the bigger picture, inspires and brings a sense of gratitude for life. Aspiring to these qualities illuminates the lack of them at times. When I hit this kind of wall or low, I turn to the smile and humor to elevate my
It also suggests that people will systematically look to another person’s face to determine if their attempt at humor was successful or not. When interpreters hear the presenter laugh, they are safe to assume humor is somehow involved. If it is possible for interpreters to see the presenter’s face while telling the joke, the interpreter can be on the lookout for the presenter watching for a reaction (Hoicka & Akhtar,
True humor is supposed to be used as way to make people look at situation from a different perspective and to laugh about it. An example of this is from the reading “SantaLand Diaries” where David realized that life was not going as expected. He is thirty –three years old and applying for an elf job. He tries to imagine a whole new world where he is able succeed and accomplish his dreams within three weeks of being in New York. In the reading he says “I’m trying to look on the bright side” he is using this imaginative world to help him get through a really tough time within his life.
(p. 70). I agree with Berger that humor is a human trait, but I do not think we are born with it. I want to focus on when humans start using humor in a form of distraction Berger describes and why Berger thinks we do this. Berger’s thinking that humor can only be linked to humans is interesting to me and not a concept I have ever thought of. There are videos of animals doing all kinds of human like actions, but other than monkeys, there is little evidence that animals recognize humor.
If there was no one to challenge the “norm”, how could people ever change? Humorists today are more important than ever as people grow increasingly ignorant of the issues that surround them and the messages they don’t want to
The use of humor to alleviate the dull reality of life is used in Ken Kesey’s novel, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, which supports the idea that one's own humor creates happiness in others and relieves stress much like in the critically acclaimed Christmas classic, Elf, starring Will Ferrell. Humor is used by Ken Kesey very prominently especially when the patients do not seem to have the ability to laugh at anything nor find anything funny. The patients live a very dull life in which they repeat their monotonous cycle of life in the ward. They no longer have known what it is like in the norm because of the Big Nurse wears them down with the oppressive nature of the Combine.
Sometimes, it can also take the form of self-derision. It is one of the oldest themes on the basis of which humor is analyzed. According to this theory, a person can be found comical is therefore considered to be inferior, if he or she is inadequate according to a set of agreed-upon group or societal criteria. Both Plato and Aristotle wrote about humor as a form of mockery or disdain, usually self-directed, which should be kept at a minimum (Janco, 1984). The expression of humor as superiority can either serve the mechanism of control or a form of
Humor and irony play very important roles in Everyday Use. The humor found
In developing this paper on leadership, I examined what was most important to me as a leader. As I reflected on my leadership philosophy, I thought about my experiences and the principals that I have learned through my own self-discovery and the observation of other leaders that I have had throughout my life. My leadership philosophy paper will focus on what leadership is to me, core values, and knowledge of others. In thinking about my definition of leadership, I thought of what was most important to me in and as a leader.
To motivate subordinates to achieve their goals, especially those goals which are essential when accomplishing a mission or important task. It is the job of the leader to provide direction and make each goal a priority. A proper leader must also always have a successful plan set forth that they will use to accomplish goals efficiently and to the highest of standards. It is these core leadership competencies, which, when put together, will create a successful
Leadership Journal Report Assignment Skills Inventory: The skills inventory, which includes technical, human, and conceptual skill, helps me to measure my three leadership competencies of me. It lets me to understand how my skills separate to three leadership skill approaches. According to our textbook, although all of three skills are important to leaders, the importance of each skill varies between different management levels. By scoring it, I got 19 in technical skill, 21 in conceptual skill, and 25 in human skill, which is the highest one.
Another positive for freedom of speech for comedians is that the jokes made can lighten the mood of the subject. A comedians function in society is to challenge authority, and talk about subjects that may be unacceptable (Hartsell). Comedians are expected to go too far, but when they do, they are disapproved for it. Although, the audiences may only laugh at a joke because of how awkward it is going to be if no one did. “People like to mask their feelings due to not wanting others to really know how they feel—so people may laugh in times of nervousness because they are trying to balance their anxious feelings” (Kaminski).
These primates inherit a quality of being humorous. Humans, such as myself, and chimpanzees share this quality, which cause our peers to appreciate our presence. Humorous people are easy to socialize with, and brings positivity to the conversation, or the environment. When I was in 4th grade, I noticed that I could change any mood into a positive situation. There was this girl in my class, whose home life was not stable and very dejected.
