I want to be a part of the Cougar Counseling Team because I think I would be a valuable asset to the team. I want to help spread positivity and help others through their college experience to make their time at College of Charleston enjoyable. I like to think I am a positive role model who can encourage and support others who seek out help. I have always been the friend that others seem to come to when they need someone to express their feelings. When my friend recommended that I should be a part of the team, I did research on what the team did in the college community and instantly wanted to be a part of this ground-breaking team.
Survivors Support Group I am currently on the mental health track, so looking at a potential group that I might encounter would encompass female victims of domestic violence and abuse (DVA) which is also referred to as intimate partner violence (IPV) and rape or sexual assault victims (as statues vary depending on the states definition). Both forms of abuse stem from a power and control dynamic. The use of force during sex is not about sexual pleasure for the perpetrator, instead the pleasure comes from being in a position of power and having control over another human being. The act of hurting and demeaning the woman is the real pleasure. DVA/IPV consists of physical, sexual, emotional, and economic abuse.
Aside from the various prevention and outreach programs, HTYFS also offers family therapy to Hanover Township residents. Though, technically, HTYFS counseling serves the family, clients can be seen individually or as a group as long as there is a child under the age of nineteen living in the home. Therefore, clients may be youth, children, couples, individuals, a parent, or families. Clients are seen either by a LCPC, LCSW, MSW, or an intern. Therapy is mostly grounded in Family Systems Model, but Structural Family Therapy is also used.
I asked. “What’s it look like?” Jay retorted,”Yeah, they 're the only thing that keeps me sane these days Clea. My therapist prescribed them, so I either take them or go back to rehab. And rehab is a living
I agree to a certain extent that group counseling has more to offer than individual counseling. Not everyone is suitable for group counseling or individual counseling (Corey,2008 and Yalom, 2005). Group counseling however has many different benefits that I consider has more to offer. It could provide group support for the members who are affecting as they are not totally alone in the situation that they are facing. It is also effective as they provide a greater help and feedback.
