The Eleusinian Mysteries, was explained in Homer’s book called, “Hymn to Demeter”. The royal family of Eleusis helped Demeter to find her daughter, Persephone. Then, Demeter,
Have you ever read about the adventures of Gluskabe or how seasons came to be? If you have, they are very similar to each other. Demeter & Persephone are the goddesses of crops and seasons. Persephone is married to Hades, the god of the underworld, while Demeter is Persephone’s mother. Gluskabe is a very clever and sneaky person.
As many know Pluto and Hades most well known story is of Kore and Persephone and how he was the cause of winter because he tricked Kore and Persephone into staying seven months of the year with him as his wife, which in turn broke Ceres’ and Demeter’s, Kore and Persephone mothers, heart. In the stories of both goddesses, Demeter and Persephone, the idea of sorrow was foremost. Demeter, goddess of the harvest wealth, was still more the divine sorrowing mother who saw her daughter die each year. Persephone was the radiant maiden of the spring and the summertime, whose light step upon the dry, brown hillside was enough to make it fresh and blooming as Sappho writes.

Reading throughout the myths of Osiris and Hades, there were several differences in symbolism. Hades’ myth talks about the kidnapping of Demetrius’ daughter, Persephone, taken in the underworld with him. Zeus, alarmed for the barren earth, sought for Persephone's return. However, because she had eaten pomegranate seeds while in the underworld, Hades had a claim on her. Therefore, it was decreed that Persephone would spend four months each year in the underworld.
Demeter, she with the beautiful garlands in her hair, kept them (the seeds) covered underground,” (The Homeric Hymns 306).The strength and determination of Demeter and Persephone collectively demonstrate helps to overthrow the male dominance in this myth. Crafting a deal with Zeus, Demeter and Persephone achieve their goal and finally reunite. Throughout history, women have been used to gain power, please individuals, and finish trade deals- the Homeric Hymn to Demeter is absolutely no omission from this. Even though the portrayal of women in this myth are grim, it does bring light and legitimates the unfair power contrast between men and women of the
(Hamilton 52). Demeter’s worship pings are very sacred and personal, “The great festival, in September, came only every five years, but it lasted for nine days. They were most sacred days, when much of the ordinary business life was suspended.” (Hamilton 52-53). She was very old and natural.
Persephone was kidnapped by Hades, the god of the underworld, and was forced to be his wife. Persephone was gathering flowers in the field along with Artemis and Athena when Hades came to abduct her, bursting through a crevice in the earth. When Demeter discovered that her daughter had disappeared, she searched for her all over the world. In most versions of the Greek myth, Demeter neglects the earth’s vegetation in the depths of her despair and this causes nothing to grow from the earth. According to author, Mark Cartwright’s web-article in the Ancient History Encyclopedia, “…Persephone did not love Hades and to punish him, she decided she would not eat or drink.
The Mythology The Virgo constellation is homage to Demeter, goddess of harvest and fertility. She controlled all the crops in the world and was very generous to often give the people a healthy harvest. Persephone, Demeter’s daughter, was out in a beautiful field one day gathering flowers that her mother had grown for her. Hades spotted her and a lust burned inside him so strong that he kidnapped her, fearing that he wouldn’t be able to live without her. He took her down into the underworld and planned to make her his bride.
On a reading of the Homeric Hymn to Demeter which regards Persephone, Demeter's daughter, as being representative of spring, the myth of Persephone's kidnapping by Hades can be interpreted as allegorical of the changing of the seasons. In particular, Persephone can be considered as a metaphor for the planting of seeds. While she is kept underground in the realm of Hades during the winter, no crops are grown and the land is barren. However, as the winter transitions into the spring Persephone emerges from the underworld, much like a budding plant, and reunites with her mother and the other Olympian gods and goddesses above ground. When Persephone is relegated to live with Hades she falls into a depression and becomes, figuratively speaking,

Many festivals and performances were thrown in Dionysus’ honor.
One interesting fact about Demeter is that when her daughter Persephone got kidnapped by Hades she began to neglect the earth to the point of killing all living things. The Greek Goddess Demeter is the most important Goddess of their time because without her life one earth would cease to exist. Demeter appears as a calm woman under a veil.
