On October 13, 2015 at 8:36 pm on the CNN channel, I watch the Democratic Presidential Debate. The debate was hosted by Anderson Cooper. The candidates were Governor Lincoln Chafee, Governor Martin O’Malley, Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Senator Bernie Sanders, and Senator Jim Webb. The topics discussed that were interesting to me were gun control, foreign policy, climate change, Black lives matter, income equality and cost of education. On the topic of gun control, Senator Sanders supports a ban on assault rifles. He also states that background checks are needed because knowingly giving a gun to a criminal is wrong. Former Secretary of State Clinton states that she stands up against the National Rifle Association and furthermore …show more content…
Governor O’Malley stated there was a lesson learned from Benghazi and that human intelligence was needed on the ground to make better decision, based on what is going on in that country. Secretary Clinton called Vladimir Putin, of Russia, a bully and states that he will regret what he has done to his people because he is bombing his citizens causing them to escape. Senator Sanders wants to put together an Arab coalition that should be leading the effort to stand against the violence in Syria. Senator Webb focused on China and the cyber warfare on the country, also the national Security threats with the nuclear material in Iran. Governor Chafee stated that there was a poor judgment used in a quagmire (awkward) situation in the Iraq where soldiers were propelled into …show more content…
Senator Sanders stated that the middle class is disappearing, they are working long hours for lower wages. Senator Sanders would like to raise the minimum wage to $15/hr. to help rebuild the middle class. Secretary Clinton said Americans need a good education to obtain a good job. This relates into education cost through college affordability. Senator Sanders stated that “a college education is equivalent to a high school education now in 2015”. Meaning that the credentials of a bachelor’s degree is not worth as much as it used to be to obtain a good job, and further education is needed. Secretary Clinton suggests to refinance college debt to a low interest rate. Governor O’Malley wants to create a separate consensus from commercial banking and refuse the Glass-Steagall Act. The Glass-Steagall Act is a bill that was designed “to provide for the safer and more effective use of the assets of banks, to regulate interbank control, to prevent the undue diversion of funds into speculative operations, and for other purposes.” This act was sponsored by Senator Glass and Representative Steagall in 1933. It was election year, and a turning point for the organization. In preparation for the elections, the League scheduled a dinner at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington. Scheduled to speak was a prominent Democrat and the former governor of New York, Al Smith. His speech was broadcast over the radio and caused much drama in the Washington circle. Though not many well-known members of the administration attended, “from the ranks of business, finance, management, and law were assembled many of the most prominent names in America.”
Presidential candidates should answer how they truly feel and what they know about a topic instead of dodging or attacking the question like an ex-girlfriend. We Americans put our faith in the president to keep the country flourishing, safe, and great. In this democratic debate, Hillary Clinton used the red herring fallacy and the ad hominem fallacy. In the end, everyone can see right through her answers. All that people have to do is pay attention to how she answered these questions and they would be able to understand they are
Beginning with a short summary of Obama’s proposal, Coulter quickly attacks every morsel of the idea. Coulter assumes a college degree is essentially worthless, and according to her, making it free will only devalue it more. She reports that most graduates are working entry level jobs that don’t even require a degree. Coulter’s stance on “the state of higher education” is the “product has… gotten much, much worse.” College students are being “brainwashed” into becoming Democrats, she claims.
Reading through RIP, the Middle Class: 1946-2013, it became fairly obvious that the author, Edward McClelland, was presenting a thesis idea that consisted of promoting the middle class through examples of its prime time when middle class thrived. McClelland made the point clearly as he repeatedly provided examples ranging from the glory days of the assembly line industry that had provided high paying jobs for many people, to presidents who attempted to keep business within the United States to promote home grown jobs. He was especially focused on the point that the middle class was shrinking due to a large discrepancy between the wealthy and the rest of society as capitalism achieves its goal of padding the wealthiest and keeping the middle
In the 2016 presidential election campaign, fifteen republicans and five democrats began the race for the upcoming position offered country wide. Current republican, Carly Fiorina, placed sixth in the top ten candidates running. Throughout the country many nominees such as Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, and Ben Carson are running for office but none of them meet the criteria that the country needs. Former U.S. Senate runner up, Carly Fiorina, supports LGBT rights, opposes abortion, supports the second amendment, and she believes that it is the state’s decision to legalize marijuana. The country is struggling with these issues in each state but she will manage it to the best of her ability with all opinions of the people in mind.
My life is mainly composed of those three things so I wanted to follow somebody that had a concern greater than mine on those topics. However, I do think that any of Nebraska’s representatives would have been a wonderful to follow, but I just felt more of a connection with Deb Fischer’s intentions. Keeping up with everything that Deb Fischer has been doing has been very detailed. Finding the resources that would support all sides of the story and not just hers was quite challenging. Many of the information found was all in favor of Fischer because they wanted to promote her and her views.
Most people in foreign countries will look at America’s presidential election and say it is a mess—heck even some Americans will tell you this. But after looking through the candidates, Bernie Sanders is essentially the best choice. Not only does he address challenges in a big way, work to help the working middle class, and make college easy access to almost everyone in America, he will also set some records if he becomes president. According to Walter Pinkman he will break two records by becoming the oldest U.S. President and the first Jewish-American President in U.S. history.
The presidential election is around the corner and the people of this nation have a very important job to stay updated and willing to compromise. Watching campaigns and keeping up with the race is only a small task. Soon an individual will be asked to form a stern decision and cast a very vital vote. This will give a candidate the key to our future. Of those running in the election, the democratic candidates share similar beliefs and concerns with a portion United States citizens, no matter their economic status.
The fact of everyday needs is so expensive that it is hard to meet their basic living expenses. Due to the fact that people have to pay for food, housing, car payments, and many more things to survive the minimum wage should be raised. As said in the article, a guy that supports himself would have to work 93 hours a week to be able to be able to afford the essential needs. The Adams American Dream definition says how they want everyone to achieve and succeed in life which is really hard not being able to with the minimum wage this
Hillary Clinton: Gun Control “America simply cannot accept as ‘normal’ about 33,000 gun deaths every year ” (“Hillary Clinton on gun violence prevention.”). Hillary Clinton’s stance on gun control is that the government needs to close the Charleston loophole, fix our background checks, and keep guns out of criminals hands. Clinton will also stop the internet shopping loophole and make people on the no-fly list not be able to get hold of arms. Every 88.8 out of 100 American people have guns; guns are among the most common in America of all countries.
In Michelle Obama’s speech at the Democratic National Convention, she uses rhetorical strategies and situations to convey her message to the delegates at the convention. Obama gives the speech at the 2016 Democratic National Convention to express her ideas for the future of America and to support Hillary Clinton. Michelle Obama conveys her support for Hillary Clinton in a way that is easy to understand, through storytelling, and logos. Michelle expresses her ideas in a way that is easy to understand.
26 Oct. 2015. This article talks about the supporters and non-supporters of gun control and what all of it could lead too. It talks about our Second Amendment rights and how the Democrats as well as The Republicans wanted to make it harder for the mentally ill to get firearms in their hands. They would increase the funding for the prosecutions and they would even get more strict on the control of gun trafficking. This article also states that The Democrats were very quick to blame The Republicans for the broken gun laws.

The middle class want to become rich and the low class only wants equality.” Orwell’s predictions of the party, the government in modern society, rises to power and the poor stay poor. In LA Times “Income Inequality makes the rich more scrooge-like, study finds”, “Since the 1980’s -- the end of a 30-year period… wealth has grown increasingly concentrated at the top of the economic ladder, while low-income Americans have commanded a smaller and smaller share of the nation’s wealth.” *add where quote is from* ”... top 5 percent of American families saw their real income increase 74.9 percent… the lowest-income fifth saw a decrease in real income of 12.1 percent… Sharply contrasting with the 1947-79 period… with the lowest income group actually seeing the largest gains.”
In Ames, Iowa January of 2016, Sarah Palin delivers a confident speech endorsing Trump for presidency. In it, she asserts that the United States is in need of a strategic and honest leader, much like Donald Trump. Palin uses a loud but articulate tone of voice and diction. Also, she utilizes a patriotic, and motherly, sense of pathos in order to appeal to the majority of the audience, U.S. citizens. Furthermore, she uses blunt allusions to previous presidencies, such as Obama’s term, in order to compare Trump in a positive way.
