There are many different career paths and so many jobs for people to choose. Different people are made special for different jobs. I however have chosen to become a Dental Hygienist. I feel this career is the best choice for me. I think good dental hygiene is very important and I take pride in keeping my teeth clean and healthy. Helping others to have clean teeth and dental hygiene is very important and a goal of mine. I feel this job as a dental hygienist will provide me with a rewarding hands-on job and interaction with many people and possibly new friendships with patients, it’s always good to have them feel comfortable around you and look forward to coming back.
The career that fascinates me and what I plan to be when Im older, is a Dental Hygienist. A dental hygienist is a stressful job, but it helps a lot of people. You are helping people get better teeth and even look better, because when people have straight pretty teeth, they seem to have an upgrade in their looks. I haven’t always wanted to be a dental hygienist, I had many other career choices. But, something about making people smile when I’m the reason they look good doing it makes me happy.
When we were all younger, most of us had an idea of what we wanted to be when we grew up. Whether it was a firefighter or president, we all had our future planned out. But once we got older and entered high school, plans changed. For me personally, I changed my mind a couple of times before I made a decision about what I wanted to do with my life. I decided that I wanted to go to Parkland College and get my degree in Dental Hygiene. Why dental hygiene? Well, being a dental hygienist is a very stable job. People will always need their teeth to be cleaned and I would be paid well even in the beginning of the job. I wanted a job that would be stress free but also help people at the same time also.

I am writing this letter to request an increase in my hourly rate. I am requesting a $3.00 raise. I am the current Dental hygienist at Rotterdam Dental Associates and Hudson Valley Plaza Dental. I have been employed at Rotterdam Dental Associates for a year and five months. I took over for the hygienist at Hudson Valley Plaza Dental in November, 2014. During this time at the company I have not ask for a raise until now because I wanted to show the company the current efforts I am making to improve my skill level. When I first came to University of Bridgeport, I first heard about their dental hygiene program from my advisor, who had positive feedback to say about the program. Yet, he told me how competitive it was, because he wanted to make sure this was going to be the right path for me to pursue and that I could handle the pressure. My top four priorities for work are stability/ reliability, balance, money, and passionate. I would need a stable/ reliable job so I wouldn’t have to worried about losing my job. A deal breaker would be a lack of financial stability because I need to be able to pay my bills and then still have money left over to leisurely spend or for emergencies. When I assist personal care to someone, a number of possible risk factors are applying, e.g. I can expect risks to my health sourced in manual handling (like lifting, transferring etc.), clinical hygiene, materials and equipment, challenging behavior, or I might get infections from the individual. During different kind of twisting, bending, reaching moves, or by exerting high or unexpected forces different muscle groups around my neck, shoulders and back can be injured, or hurt. When you are young, you are asked: "what do you want to be when you grow up?" Most children would reply by saying a superhero, a professional basketball player, a model, etc. My response was always, someone who can make a difference in an individual's life. Finding out how I was going to do that exactly was challenging until I reached my junior year in high school. I remember going to the Dental Office to get my regular cleaning and after watching my Dental Hygienist at the time, conduct her regular duties such as cleaning my teeth and educating me on good oral health I was intrigued. I don 't think people have considered on how badly these electronic devices can ruin our posture and hurt us in insidious psychological ways.
