There are many different kind of department in a hotel. Hotels have many departments but all the departments are using inter-relationship and dependencies so that the operation in the hotel will be run smoothly. Therefore, I had chosen housekeeping department and front office department for this essay. The Housekeeping Department is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the room standard, public areas, office spaces and back of the house areas in the hotel so that the property is as fresh and attractive as its first day of running the hotel (Hotel-academy.eu, 2016). On the other hand, Front Office refers to the front desk or reception area or the core operations department of the hotel (Wikipedia.com, 2016).

As I mentioned earlier, Housekeeping Department and Front Office Department must communicate well so that both of the department may update the room status to each other. A front desk staff cannot assign a guestroom to the guest until the room has been cleaned, inspected and released by the Housekeeping Department so it takes long time for staff in Housekeeping Department to release a room because they need to inspect first and to ensure everything is okay in the guestroom (Scribd.com, 2016). If a room attendant in Housekeeping Department not doing their task which the supervisor had given, the flow of the operation might be messed up because room attendant is responsible for cleaning the room in order to let the new arrival to stay. Therefore, if the room attendant did not do their task, the front desk staff can’t assign the guestroom to the guest because the room is not clean and the room has not been inspected yet. The system that both of the Housekeeping Department and Front Office Department used is HIS system which also known as Hotel Information System. This Hotel Information System is to keep track of hotel guest (Sourceforge.net, 2016). With this system staff in Housekeeping Department and Front Office Department will be able to check the guest easily whether he/she has checked out or not. Therefore, this system is more convenient and efficient to both of the Housekeeping Department and Front Office
