‘Style icon’ is someone who is probably looked up to by many people in terms of style, personality and their work. It is probably the most overused term in the design industry. A style icon is a personal choice decided by the individual. When a group of people agrees with you on the same person being a style icon, they are perhaps then given the tag of the year. A style icon does not necessarily mean being someone with a good fashion sense, it also includes a person’s overall personality and the way they carry themselves. The work they do is a reflection of their individuality and unique personality.
There are many people who fascinate me by their style and are an inspiration in different ways. But there is one person I adore and look up to and perhaps can title as my ‘Style Icon’ is Angel Sanchez.
Angel Sanchez developed an appreciation for fashion at a young age surrounded by dress forms and fabrics in his mother’s Venezuelan atelier. "For me, the entire process of designing a bridal collection flows in a very natural way, and I find it to be much less stressful than when I design a collection of ready-to-wear. Perhaps that's because I'm not worried about a colour palette, or trends, but rather I just follow my instincts. After multiple achievements and high honors, in 2015, Zampatti celebrated the milestone “50 Years of Fashion”.
The two artists that caught my attention were Mexican artists, Pedro Reyes and Carla Fernandez. What makes these artists unique is that they both collaborate together to create their own form of art. They met in college when they decided to collaborate in a show after knowing each other for ten years they married. Carla works with textile and fabrics and Pedro focuses more on welding, stone making or weaving. While Pedro works more with young college students, Carla finds her inspiration while working with the community.

The arts are an essential part of a well-rounded education, however, when an institute begins a budgeting process, the arts are rarely considered a top priority. For example, during periods of recession many public schools within the United Stated were forced to cut visual, performing and musical arts programs, despite studies that proved the exposure to the arts to be beneficial for students both academically and in extracurricular activities. According to Natalia Borecka (2017), only 14% of major brands are run by female designers, even though the majority of fashion design graduates are women. (para. ????) As a person that is constantly demanding herself to grow and change, fashion is the one thing that can keep up with me.
