Describe The Vietnam Memorial

The Washington Memorial is a magnificent work of architecture. This monument was built as a tribute to George Washington, the first President of the United States of America. It is also a sign of the advancement our country has made. This monument is located in the District of Columbia, in Washington DC. It was designed by Robert Mills and construction was finished in 1884, which makes it almost 133 years old.

Thesis: When you think of memorials, what do you think of? Maybe the large Washington monuments, or Mount Rushmore come to mind. Well, lets honestly think about what a monument is. Something built to keep the memory of something, or someone alive. Just as a gravestone does, or a plaque, or a picture of a loved one on social media.

Around the world people memorialize great hero’s, express great sorrow for those lost in battle, and celebrate the triumphs that had built the ground and infrastructure from one nation to the next; monuments are constructed to remember our past. Yet, monuments cannot be constructed out of nothing ,great goes into planning, paying, and research that goes into making sure correct homage is paid those who are due. If one wishes to build a memorial a few things must be taken into consideration,making sure the monument honors or recognizes an important person or event, the design of the building including shape and size,and lastly the monument is placed in an acceptable location based on the subject matter. The most important factor in building a monument is making something that people will recognize and feel an attachment to.

Monuments that are constructed in order to give commendation to people, places, or events are located all over the globe. It is very possible for someone to find a few in their very own town. Although there may be negative controversy on certain monuments, many throughout the world have changed individual’s lives tremendously in a beneficial way. One monument in particular has stood tall through it all and has had so much positive effect on millions of people from the beginning of time. One hundred and thirty years later this monument continues to impact people’s lives from all over the world.

The War Dogs monument is located near the Korean War memorial, the World War II, and II and the Vietnam Memorial. The monument is going to fit best in this location because dogs played a part in those wars. the monument is going to have a big copper sculpture of a war dogs. All around the dog, we are going to have smaller dogs that kids can climb on. The War Dogs monument is going to be made out of marble which is a green material.

The development of modern day architecture is very fascinating. Even though it has a very significant difference to architecture in the past, it still has many similarities. Many famous buildings we have today still show the same basic designs. For example, the Lincoln Memorial is very similar to the Parthenon.

To begin with, Confederate statues, flags, and monuments has been the history of our country so the people and the future generation can see what America have dealt with to be where we are at. In the United States, the statues and monuments are representation of historic mark as they are important part of the US history. The monuments are very significant as it symbolizes history and some of those monuments are being removed. For example, a monument of Chief Justice Roger B. Taney was removed in Maryland. One man stated that, "It has become increasingly clear in recent weeks that memorials such as this are hurtful to many residents in our community and elsewhere” (County “Here are the Confederate memorials that will be removed after Charlottesville”).

In The Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Maya Lin employs rhetorical devices in order to elucidate, the gross cost of the Vietnam Conflict in U.S. lives. The minimalist design used in the Vietnam Veterans Memorial emphasizes the overwhelming amount of human lives lost. On the Wall, a small diamond is depicted next to the names of people confirmed dead, if a person is MIA(Missing in Action) they get a small cross next to their name. The cross can easily be carved into a diamond if the person is confirmed dead ,or turned into a circle, a symbol of life, if they are found alive.

Every year, thousands of volunteers travel to Arlington, Va. to lay wreathes on the tombstones in Arlington National Cemetery. Wreathes Across America organizes the event each year, and this year, the day to lay wreathes was Saturday, December 17. Thousands of volunteers showed up to honor fallen soldiers, despite the nasty weather conditions that day. This year was the 25th anniversary of the event, and organizers estimated that over 245,000 wreathes were placed on tombstones throughout the day. Many volunteers felt that, despite the frigid temperatures and hazardous road conditions, it was important to come out and show support for fallen soldiers because they fought and died in conditions that were far worse.

Memorializing, can be an honor for such great sacrifice or even paying a tribute to a deep achievement that has occurred. The need for such memorials, can be complex, whether it be for people or events, that can lead to the creation of statues,or even in other cases, buildings. The way one builds the memorial as well, is a big part of many considerations on the way it is created, and what it brings today’s culture from the past. In the past and even today, citizens continue to build memorials in thought of what humans did to change our lives. Like people, memorials all have their stories, for instance like Source A, Source D, and Source E.

ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERY As the birds are singing their sweet melody, the terrain of Arlington National Cemetery is filled with sadness. Although the brilliant rays of the sun are shining through the thick treetops, there is a chill in the air. While watching the mourners, the feeling of their sorrow is all too real. Thousands of headstones in the far distance create a magnificent maze against the horizon.

Imagine looking over lighted water to a huge temple over a hundred feet wide. You might be looking at the Lincoln Memorial, One of the Biggest Memorials ever built. The Lincoln Memorial is there to honor Abraham Lincoln, our 16th president. The Lincoln memorial took extra long to build because of disagreements about where and how to build it. The Lincoln Memorial is a prestigious and amazing structure.
