ALI MASA KONDAKJI RAAD NASHAT HADDAD Sharjah, UAE May 2015 Abstract The purpose of the study is to define different passive design strategies improving energy performance of buildings, including; building orientation, passive cooling and heating, and day lighting design. The need arises for these strategies since the building sector is accounted for more than 42% of world’s energy consumption. The methods we used in our research included the collection of qualitative data regarding what are passive design strategies, how to implement them on buildings, what are the results and output, and their impact on the economy. In conclusion, the growing trend in energy consumption of the building sector will continue in the coming years due to the increase in population and built up area, therefore, the Passive design strategies should be implemented, limiting the energy consumption and raising awareness to have a sustainable energy future in the building sector.
