Imagine a beautiful night on a beautiful beach... You are strolling at the shore with water flowing under your feet! You look down and you see that the water is full of tiny twinkling stars! No, this is not just an imagination! This place really exists! Let’s take a quick visit at the Sea of Stars...
South-west of Sri Lanka in the Indian Ocean of Maldives, is located the Vaadhoo Island! This is one of many popular islets inhabited in the Raa Atoll Island. These islets spread over 900,000 square kilometres! The beautiful beaches in the Vaadhoo Island don’t just have shining white sand and warm water with rich marine life... They also have an alluring secret which is revealed at night. Vaadhoo Island is famous for their glow in the dark beaches. They look like tiny stars in the water but are actually small bio-luminescent planktons which emit light. This glowing in the dark phenomena is very rare. The water may look like a visual effect of the reflection of the sky full of stars but it is these amazing creatures which make the Maldives, one of the best tourist attractions! …show more content…

It is just such a unique experience and rare sight! But there are some side effects due to the glow! Because of the blue glow, red algae blooms. These algae are also called red tide. They turn the beach dim during day time and make the water and sand red! This chemical process is used as a defence mechanism to make the predators confused or distracted. This phenomenon usually happens at the end of summer and spring and sometimes has another side effect. They make the water whitish and give it a milky sea effect in Arabian Sea too!
