The neighborhood outside was lighted but the cold of winter kept people inside their homes, warmed up with the fireplaces and electronic heaters as was usual at this time of the year. It was the 2nd of January and the New Year’s celebration still would not fade out for a few days. As new hopes and new dreams wrapped up and as the crystal snowflakes embraced the beautiful Thimphu city, Sonam smiled at his gorgeous pair of daughters and his adorable grand children as they surrounded him at mid night to wish his 85th birthday. Sonam was an adorable old man, handsome and physically fit enough to be but an 85 year old man, he had been one remarkable man in his own ways all through his live.
Sonam was born in Paro to a humble family. He had lovable parents who were respected in the society for their simplicity and humble nature. He had a normal childhood, had almost everything a child would ask for: he had friends he loved, parents who cared for him and looked into his needs and people who were helpful to each other. It was probably because of this fact that Sonam had always been a helpful and kind person right from his childhood days. He learnt from his parents the value of simplicity and humbleness, his friends taught him the need and worth of loving companions and he believed that every person he met and would meet would teach him lessons that would make him a better person.
