Cusco 11/15 Like I've said in the past I am not a city person. I prefer solitude and natural beauty to sky scrapers and city bussel. That is why I was just as surprised as you may be that I fell in love with a city that has over 4 million people in it. Side note: I am not actually sure if the city has 4 million people in it, the taxi guy said there was 4 million people in Cusco...but then again he also said my ride would only cost 15 sols which it did not...it was 25). I stayed primarily in the center of the city which looks like old Perugia in Italy but has the prices of a Peru. The street are cobble stone, there are a number of perfectly manicured parks with statues and fountains and the main plaza has building with balconies adorned with ornate woodwork. The best part is all the little ally ways and hidden court yards. The city is filled with hidden gems that can only be found though exploring. There is market that is filled with alpaca sweaters and nicnacs for gifts but beyond those stalls is the area where all the locals shop. Shop carefully and if you are patient you will find woman that hand knit the hats they are selling. Prices are not fixed and are merely a jumping off point for haggling. The cheaper massages are for basic back or hand massages. Full body massages will cost more money and it is up to you to decide if it is worth it. I love a good massage and got a great one while in Cusco but I know some people that were lead into ally ways or up to the third floor of a building where several people are getting massaged at once side by side in a tiny room with a lot of strangers watching.
