Japan is an amazing place! With so many sights to see, beautiful architecture, and so much more! But, obviously, Japan didn 't just appear out of mid air, so I will be telling you some of the ancient geography, contributions, food, history, and religion of Japan! I was able to research and come upon many interesting facts and things about the beautiful place of ancient Japan, starting with the ancient geography of Japan. Starting off, the first historical period of Japan is called the Jomon Period. This started when people crossed bridges, now lost, from mainland Asia to the northern and southern Japanese islands. They spread to the four main islands, now called Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu. None of these names I know how to pronounce. Later, they spread to the several hundred smaller islands that soon made up Japan. It has about forty active volcanoes and experiences about 1,000 earthquakes a year. That seems a little dangerous to me... Then again, we have around 10,000 earthquakes yearly, just in California! Japan 's highest mountain has been and probably always will be, is Mount Fuji. Most people have heard the name of this mountain. Japan 's mountains are full of forests and plants. Since most of the ground is uneven, many mountainsides and hills at low elevations around towns and cities are often cultivated.
