The Mexican culture and cuisine is a colorful and versatile experience that many Americans think they are quite familiar with. With many “Americanized” Mexican restaurants in our country including Taco Bell and Chipotle, it can be tough to know what real, authentic Mexican food is. Recently, I discovered a genuine Mexican restaurant right here in the city of Logan called ‘La Tormenta'. I was recommended this restaurant by my friends who say it is their “go-to” spot when they want real and delicious Mexican food on a college-friendly budget. Translated to mean “The Storm” in English, La Tormenta exceeded my expectations and will be visited again by me. Walking into the small restaurant, I did feel a bit out of place. It was served with black beans, rice, cotija cheese, avocado slices, and warm corn tortillas. I chose this plate because I love shrimp and have not had it in this style before. The shrimp was delicious and I really enjoyed the sautéed vegetables with it. I enjoyed the black beans and rice together on the side. The cotija cheese was something that I was not familiar with, but I ended up really enjoying it with my meal. Cotija is a hard cow’s milk cheese that originated from Mexico, and I thought that it was a nice, light cheese that added subtle, sweet flavor to the meal. I made tacos with the shrimp and the corn tortillas and then topped them with the restaurant’s homemade pico de gallo, picked onions, and salsa that is served in small bowls on every table. I really liked that these condiments were homemade and was an essential part of the meal. I thought the salsa was very spicy but still delicious. As a dietetics student, I was quite surprised by how nutritious this meal actually was. American-Mexican food is often seen as unhealthy with large burritos and nachos loaded with processed cheese. However, this meal included a wide variety of nutrients and I was very satisfied after the meal. Historically, Mexican cuisine incorporates fresh fruits, vegetables, and local wide game.1 But the cuisine has since been influenced by other nations and has changed over

Remember Jared Fogle. He lost weight on the Subway diet and cashed in big with a TV contract. A few years went by, and a clever young woman named Christine Dougherty wrote a letter to Taco Bell with her story about losing 54 pounds on her Taco Bell Drive-Thru Diet. Before you can say "nachos del grande" she's all over TV showing off her svelte body, the result, we are supposed to infer, of the young woman replacing her higher fat and calorie tacos and burritos with the "Mexican" fast food chain's slimmed down Fresco Menu versions. Abuelo’s, in Mason, has consistently been voted the best Mexican food in America, which is little wonder due to the exceptional family recipes and friendly atmosphere. The crisp and gooey jalapeno cheese fritters served with ranch dressing and the firecracker shrimp in chili aioli and spicy peanut dressing with mango salsa are ideal starters. Some of Abuelo’s specialty entrée dishes include the tilapia Veracruz sautéed with shrimp, scallops and roasted poblanos, the grilled and bacon-wrapped beef tenderloin medallion los mejores de la casa accompanied by bacon-wrapped shrimp stuffed with cheese and jalapenos and the chicken enchiladas with fire-roasted queso sauce, all of which are perfectly seasoned and great alongside the frozen sangria swirl

The dedication, devotion, time, and loyalty Chipotle takes to provide its customers with top quality nutritious ingredients every day is praiseworthy. Even though supply-demand has often occurred resulting into unavailability of locally grown products, Chipotle has managed and continues providing a dish filled with top quality nutritious ingredients. As a result, competitors have never taken a strong position or any initiatives in providing customers with the best quality. One of the other strength of Chipotle is that it not only offers speedy and convivial service but it also provides a lively, restaurant ambiance. Also, another strength of Chipotle is its focused menu with an option to customize as per the customers’ liking, requires minimal employee training, enhances cross-training, escalates productivity, and increases
The most popular dishes included chili, beans, and tortillas, sometimes even put together. Dishes also included tacos, fajitas, burritos, stuffed chili peppers, chorizo, churros, enchiladas, salsa, pico de gallo, nachos, and guacamole (Nenes 258). Different kinds of sauces and beans were cooked to go with the main dishes. Braised, ground, barbequed, and shredded meats were common to find in the main dishes like tacos and fajitas. Flour tortillas were used mostly and a blend of chesses were used.
They have a wide variety of appetizers and main courses. My favorite appetizer has to be their black pepper chicken wings. It is a mouth watering combination of sweet and salty and has the perfect amount of spiciness for a variety of different palettes. For the main courses, I especially love the ribs with a side of sauted green beans. When you look at the dish, you immediately want to devour the smoldering red, tender ribs, as well as the juicy seasoned beans.
I did not know that they were so similar in eating habits as America until now. Hispanic:
To start off, they cook the chicken and roast the green chilies. Then they sauté the onions and garlic. In the same pan they put cream of mushroom soup, pieces of the shredded chicken breast, and chopped green chilies. My sister usually adds some milk into mixture as well. They then take corn tortilla and lightly toast them in a skillet.
Several other traditional Mexican foods are enjoyed throughout the two
If Mexican culture were a quilt, then the many varied fabric patches that comprise its surface would be meals, the batting would be equal parts family and religion, and the thread used to sew the quilt together would be tradition. The people of Mexico consider mealtimes to be of utmost importance in their culture; however, much like an attractive quilt that lacks proper insulation—pretty, but useless—mealtimes lose much of their meaning without the substance that family and religion provide. Mealtimes in Mexico are a family affair, and immediate families in Mexico are typically multigenerational and tend to be quite large. Unlike most Americans, Mexican meals are almost exclusively had in the home—rather than in restaurants—where they are prepared,
With so little time to fit our fast paced schedule, we tend to gravitate towards a new solution of ordering quickly fixed meals. Today, a hot meal can be just a phone call away and ready to be devoured. We constantly favor other individuals to prepare our food instead of taking the initiatives ourselves, thus becoming the evident fault in the American diet; here is where a solution becomes a problem. There are several flaws in the American diet, consequently leading to a staggering number of problematic health issues.
Something so simple but at the same time so flavorful. When you have a hispanic person in the kitchen and your invited never turn down the offer, especially when Thanksgiving is around the
Hispanic and American Food Traditions The type of food that we eat is influenced by the countries and people that were once settled down in the land that we live on.
