Paro Paro is a beautiful town in the valley of Paro nestled in the kingdom of Bhutan. In fact, it’s the place which hosts the International Airport of Bhutan. History The Valley of Paro dates back to centuries with a long trail of history. Basically, the Rinpung Dzong a fortress-monastery is the main attraction in terms of history that overlooks this magnificent valley. It is believed that a monastery was built by Padma Sambhava at the early of the 10th Century, but, until 1644 Ngawang Namgyal built a larger monastery on the grounds of the old foundation which served as a vital defence from the invasion of the Tibetans. The uniqueness of this Dzong was that it was made of stones instead of clay and hence it was renamed to Rinpung that means ‘heaps of jewels.’ But, unfortunately, a fire in 1907 destructed this monastery which was again rebuilt by the Penlop Dawa Penjor. …show more content…
