During that one year, there was an estimate of 2,255 miles of cleared land due to deforestation. The third largest extent of tropical rainforest is located in Peru. Peru loses between 224,000 and 300,000 hectares of forest per year, which results in 0.35-0.5 percent of annual deforestation. Like Brazil, deforestation in Peru is caused by commercial agriculture, mining, road construction and logging. Logging in Peru is illegal, but because the wood has so much value, traffickers decide to cut the trees.
Over half of the work is done illegally when the loggers build roads to get access to more of the forest. Both types of jobs leads to further deforestation. It is estimated that every second over two and a half acres of the rainforest is torn down. To this day over eighteen percent of the Amazon rainforest has been cleared, which is about the size of France. Sometimes there is also unintentional deforestation that is caused by wildfires which prevents the growth of young trees ("Amazon Destruction",
Deep within the Amazon forests of Ecuador and Peru resides several elusive tribal groups that remain unaffected by the influences of globalization. More than 1 million ancestral people indigenous to the Amazon region can be divided into approximately 400 tribes that share their own specific language, territory, and culture. They heavily rely on the Rain Forest’s resources for the survival of their bodies and minds—but as modern day imperialism seeps its way throughout the globe and ravages the earth’s vast resources, the consequences and effects are beginning to reveal themselves. Throughout history, imperialism has been a major cause of conflict amongst various cultures, and it continues to shape the modern world. By understanding
rebirth and death). The lyrics state that the narrator wants to meet solitude which means they want to leave the region and be alone which is referring to Icarus’ motives of leaving Crete. The image of water can be referred to the birth-death-resurrection because the lyrics say “I watch you skate like a knife/Beneath the water” which is represented through Icarus drowning in the Icarian Sea after his wings were destroyed. The sea can be symbolised as the mother of all life and a spiritual mystery to infinity. The flight of Icarus’ myth does not say if he drowned in the water, but most interpretations mention he died and that he was resurrected which can be implied when the lyrics say “Why must I always see the ending?/ At the beginning.” This lyric can be seen as resurrection because one knows how they died and when they’re reborn they already see the ending which referring to their death.
In the beginning of The Odyssey, the main characters are shown to us as well as the main setting. We meet Odysseus, his wife Penelope, and his son Telemachus. They all lived in Ithaca. The Amazon Rain forest is losing its natural landscape more and more as the loggers who are cutting down trees and removing its importance to the world. Cattle ranchers are also a big problem to the amazon rain forest because they are removing land just for the cattle to have more space. About 20% of the world's fresh air is found coming from the Amazon Rainforest also the environmentalist are helping the Amazon a lot by letting tourist to learn about the rainforest and the donations and money they receive goes to the rain forest so they can help the amazon survive this terrible crime. The Environmentalist want to help by slowing down the clearing of the rainforest. They hold tours for tourists to learn new information about what is happening
An estimated 18 million acres of forest is destroyed every year, almost the size of Massachusetts and Vermont combined (Global Resources Assessment 2010). Deforestation is occurring in Liberia which affects global warming and the amount and variety of natural resources and animal-borne illnesses. Liberia, a tropical country in West Africa, is considered one of the last strongholds of forests (Brown). Despite the government efforts to protect the forests by identifying them as National Parks or National Forests, and Norway paying Liberia 150 million dollars to end deforestation, deforestation continues (Morawski). Larger than the area of Maryland, twenty-five percent of Liberian forests have been sold to logging companies (Hirsch; Lupick).
Brazil Amazon rainforest is mostly threatened by deforestation and infrastructure. “More than half of the earth’s rainforests have already been lost forever to the insatiable human demand for wood and arable land.” (National Geographic, N.D). Deforestation is different from country to another, where it depends on how much it is useful for them. Many areas of the Amazon land is being used illegally for industrial work. Logging are cutting down trees for wood use to make paper, furniture and other items.
The Amazon rainforest is the largest rainforest in the world and it needs to be protected at all costs. The deforestation of the Amazon not only hurts the rainforest itself and all the species in it, it could be harmful to the entire world. The Amazon rainforest is responsible for creating ¼ of the world’s oxygen and is often referred to as the “lungs of the Earth” (Deforestation 178). In addition to providing a significant amount of oxygen, the Amazon rainforest is also home to thousands of species. In fact, one 25-acre patch of the rainforest contains 750 kinds of trees, 1500 kinds of flowering plants, 125 species of mammals, 400 kinds of birds, and countless other unknown species (Deforestation 187).
