The purpose of all dorms is to make you feel at home and for you to be able to call it your own “home.” The first couple of weeks I couldn’t call it my home, almost a month later I am happy to call it home. All the walls being plain white, having all this furniture in one tiny room, having communal bathrooms (sharing with all the girls on the hall), and the outside look of the building are all just a few reasons why it did not feel homey to me at first but I did like the location of the building. The overall effect that Belk is trying to give off is a homey feeling to all of the students who live in this residence hall, but at first it failed at this for me. The first thing you see of Belk is the outside of the building, it looks like an old school building or an old hotel building because of all the windows it has and how old it looks. Compared to the other residence halls; Cypress, Pine and Oak, this building looks very old as well as North Residence Hall. The building has very little plants around it, no welcoming sign other than the sign that says “Belk Residence Hall” and it has no color to it really. When you’re about to call something your home for a year, you actually kind of want it to look like a place you want to live. This is just one of the reasons it doesn’t feel like a homey …show more content…
It’s the place where you’re going to make memories, meet new friends, and live in for a year. Belk is one of the most convenient halls compared to Cypress and Village apartments which are one the other side of campus. At first you may not be comfortable with it but once you get used to it and are there for a month or so you’ll end up liking it and will be happy you got this residence hall. I may not of been fond of Belk when I first arrived here but I’ve learned to like it over this past month that I have been

The health science campus is relatively new but the major downfall is the extremely old, small library that students can't even study in because there is no room. Another major downfall for me is that
One’s personal experience, changes their perception of home. Based on those experiences, there’s an evaluation of whether or not it’s considered home or it violated the notion of
As a business major the one building that I will call home for the next four years of my life is the Huge Merrill Hall building. To me, it is one of the prettiest buildings on campus. There are many aspects of this building, but the eye catching part of it is the lobby. The lobby is a great place because this is where you can sit, study, talk to a friend, and even watch the local news on the flat screen provided. Not only is the lobby practical, but it is enormous.
Pennhurst Asylum By: sarah hill The air stands still as you walk around the decaying buildings. The feeling of something watching you is heavily present in your thoughts. An oder, a damp, musty, moldy odor, fills your nose as you try to peek inside and see what 's in these decrepit buildings.
A home is supposed to be the place where they can escape from their past realities and advance forward, but without this
My freshmen year at Indiana University was very much of a surprise for me personally. I learned several things about myself as an individual and what I want to do with my time at Indiana University. Bloomington is a buzzing college town that always has something going on. Most people associate Bloomington with Indiana University and never really look past that. My first few months on campus I never looked past the image of Bloomington as a college town but when I did it changed what I wanted to do with my time on campus.
Most colleges have various types of dorm rooms available to students. These rooms vary in the number of roommates, layout, and size. The dorms also vary in expense. The difference in prices is what separates the students of contrasting socioeconomic backgrounds. Colleges insist students are exposed to enough diversity around campus and the varying prices do not result in segregation of their students.
He says “The rooms were white- washed once a month” and “It was the whitest and neatest apartment in town.” He also says how spending jail wasn’t that bad, using metaphors. To him, it wasn’t a punishment. Also, his roommate in his cell wasn’t even dangerous. This makes the reader curious as to why they
“ The Fall of the House of Usher “ by Edgar Allan Poe is a short story about a man named Roderick Usher who initiates some events such as evoking his friend The Narrator as a protagonist to the dreadful mansion. The images such as the house and gothic ambience are used to reinforce the idea of giving the mystery to the reader. Edgar Allan Poe uses gothic elements to show how they affect the atmosphere and the characters. In the beginning , the gothic atmosphere of the house is indicated with terrifying images such as “ dull, dark and soundless ” that the feeling of horror vaccinated into reader by the thoughts of the narrator.
Home is My Life Burden Home. An alternative life kept from the outside world. Behind closed doors, it can be filled with tension but others may see happiness. Life outside my home is my escape from the anxiety that’s built from within the walls of what is called my home. But now, it’s not fully a family with just me and my mother.
Downtown Durant is a charming place that showcases some of the oldest and newest businesses in town. When I had the chance to walk around, I got to observe how Durant has gradually been building up since its’ beginning in the late 1800s. Durant has accumulated a unique history, which I had a chance to learn firsthand by some local business owners and by observing and doing my own research. My group started our adventure on the east end of Main Street.
In addition, the house’s dull colors suggest that people’s aesthetic preferences have changed throughout time. Hopper’s choice of color implies that people overlook the house and its qualities, leaving the house abandoned and uncared for. Lastly, Hopper portrays the house in a very isolated atmosphere, drawing attention to its awkwardness. Hopper intended to make the house appear lonely and abandoned because he wanted to draw attention to the emotional burden that change can have on
The Oakland Museum of California is a remarkable place to experience art in a museum for the first. It is a small museum but, it has so much to offer. It includes an Art gallery, History gallery and a Natural Science gallery. Walking up to the entrance of the museum, I noticed the museum is small but it had a sense of space surrounding it. The exterior had little decorations and the building has a simple but very geometric shape.
It is somehow hard for us to discover the beauty of nature in Hong Kong, the hustle and bustle city. Only when we put the work or stress away temporarily, can we truly feel how beautiful the place we are living is. As a pessimistic person, I often get stressed easily. Usually I would put myself in a quiet place, away from the crowds and the hardship I am facing. Tai Po Waterfront Park is the place that cheers me up.
