Shining Stars Dance Studio has been my dance studio for almost a year. Although I’ve been there for a short period of time, the kind hellos in the hallway, the progress pictures, and well-used dance rooms keep me from leaving. From walking in the door in the afternoon to leaving past dark, the uplifting music and instructors keeps every student motivated and working hard. With the kind ‘hellos’ and genuine ‘how are you’s surrounding you, walking into the studio can easily be a student’s favorite part of rehearsal days. The first thing you see when you walk in the studio’s door is the warm, signature blue of shining stars on the walls. The cleanly painted walls contrast with the chic, dark marble floors. The small smudges from the many feet that make their way through the lobby that day are only seen when looked for, because they’re wiped away every night with a mop that’s hidden away in the closet with a door so narrow, one must turn sideways to fit inside. Since the door is …show more content…
When first turning into the hallway, on the right wall, the Crema background of the Shining Stars Dance Studio mission statement adds warmth to the dark floor-blue wall combo. The mission statement is in another matte black frame, this one with different grooving than the progress pictures, that identifies more with flowering. Filling up the entirety of the two-foot-high, one-and-a-half-foot wide frame is white, capitalized lettering. Continuing down the hallway, on the left-hand side is a long row of dance bags. Some in the category pink butterflies design that belong to the younger dancers, and some with more mature coloring and designs that are the older dancer’s. Although the age range is wide, the bags are all mixed together, not grouped by age, so in between classes there’s no clique groups or dirty looks, but conversations open for anyone to
So as the idiom goes “ one hand washes the other,” Janet’s mother created and sewed the costumes for the students dance recitals. Later on in life Collins majored in art at Los Angeles City College. She later transferred to the Los Angeles Art Center School where she continued her studies in dance rather than in art.
When the second quarter ended, they waited while technicians set up the stage and sound props. This soon ended and Cassi and the other performers stepped onto the field in front of thousands. Cassi’s nerves switched into excitement as she looked at the crowd. It was sunny and beautiful and she loved to perform. This kind of performance, dancing, was what she was good at.
Michael was raised in Jacksonville his whole life and went to college at the University of Florida. He then moved to New York City to become a professional dancer. Laurie was raised in New Jersey and was accepted into the Metropolitan Opera House ballet school at the age of 12. She then transferred to Quintano’s School for Young Professionals as a full time student and
Little did I know then that the teachers are always looking for three things; technique, confidence, and artistry. The audition was for Nutmeg Ballet Conservatory. The class was being held at the Alvin Ailey School in New York City. Being my paranoid self, I was there two hours early.
Upon exiting the lodge, they would be given a clean set of clothes. The dancers would have their faces painted with sacred symbols, such as circles, stars, and crescents. Due to the preparatory ceremony taking all morning, the dance often did not start until the
The night of the 8th grade dance. It’s suppose to be one of the greatest times of an eighth grader's school year right? Nothing too bad could go wrong, besides stupid drama...right? Students dancing around, hanging out with their friends, and taking pictures in a photo booth sound great!... well maybe not quite…
“[My dance instructor] Cindy believed that ballet was richer when it embraced diverse shapes and cultures. There would be times in my career when I would struggle to remember that, but I would eventually come back to that conviction, that the stage on which I performed was brighter for having me, even if some in the audience or dancing beside didn 't always agree” (“Misty Copeland
I have been dancing in Dance Mission’s youth program, GRRL Brigade, since I was eight years old. I currently take modern dance and I play the Taiko drums. Dance Mission has a motto that, “Anyone can dance, no matter their body size, ethnicity, or financial situation.” The Dance Mission community is a diverse
In The Dancer by Vickie Sears a young girl, Clarissa, finds herself and her confidence through dance. This took time, devotion and passion. At first, Clarissa was young, a bit odd and very isolated, this is shown in line 61 “as quiet as she could be, she was”. As Clarissa grew up she found something she loved (dancing) and practiced it alot. Showing how far Clarissa has come, the foster mom said “There Clarissa was, full up with music.
Everyone in the class had to bring a record for the class to be able to dance to; when dance day came
No idea. You really can dance," I said. "I have a kid sister that 's only in the goddam fourth grade. You 're about as good as she is, and she can dance better than anybody living or dead."(Chapter 10, page 71-72)
5. How has Australian Dance Theatre changed as a company since its foundation in 1965? Australian Dance Theatre, established in 1965 by Elizabeth Cameron Dalman, is the longest standing contemporary dance company in Australia, recently celebrating 50 years. Whilst the company has created a remarkable 50 years of innovative and original work, many state that the concepts and ideas have vastly changed from the company Dalman established. Over the last five decades, Australian Dance Theatre has continued to develop, with the evolution of six individual artistic directors, who produced work in their distinct style, developing unique aesthetics.
Her uncle Redd told her she should go to the audition and do her best. Then after the audition, she was the only one that did not get dismissed. That meant that she was the one that got to go to the summer dance festival! Then during the summer dance festival, she fulfilled her dream to dance in the spotlight as a ballerina. This book shows that even though differences can make us feel ashamed, they can also help you to be special in life.
As a child, I was always extremely passionate about dance as a mode of expression for myself. However, my family’s financial situation never permitted me to take proper classes, and for a while I felt that a dream within myself had been crushed. When high school rolled around, I searched for an activity that would satisfy my dance needs and stumbled upon the extracurricular activity Color Guard, which consisted of flag, rifle, and sabre spinning. I grew excited at the idea of joining an activity in my high school, but what really drew me in was the dance aspect. I would finally be able to live out my dream without bound…or so I thought.
Ever since i was young i fell in love with the art of dance. When i finally joined i felt like i was a little behind hence everyone was in my class was dancing since they were toddlers. My first day of dance was pretty nerve racking. My teacher would say to do something and i wouldn't know what to do because i didn't know any dance vocabulary. I would have to look around and try to fit in as much as possible so my teacher wouldn't think i wasn't fit for the class.
