Since I was young, my mother has always worked in a daycare setting. The daycare soon became my second home. Being there for multiple hours a week, exposed me to a lot of different activities that taught me most of the skills I possess today. Among all of the toys and games the daycare had to offer, there was one in particular that I enjoyed the most, a board game call Mancala. Mancala can be played on a table or on a hard surface, with one other person. The board game has 12 parallel circular holes, which are small and each contain 4 marbles. Then you have 2 bigger oval holes at each end of the board called Mancalas. I found Mancala one day in summer camp, while looking for something to do inside since it was raining and we couldn’t go out …show more content…
It would help me concentrate and would keep me entertained for a long period of time. Mancala requires a lot of repetitive movements, that eventually became automatic to me. I have noticed over time that I enjoy doing activities that require repetitive movements since it helps me relax and keep my mind from wandering. I learned not to be a sore loser and developed problem solving skills by analyzing which hole I could pick from to end up with one that had marbles in it. I grew so found of it that my mother bought me the game once she saw how much I enjoyed playing it. I taught her how to play Mancala, along with my cousins and friends that didn’t go to the daycare with me. I have not seen or played Mancala for many years now. It is always the activity that I bring up, when I talk about things I liked to do when I was small. Over time, homework became more time consuming and going out with friends became the cooler choice as a teenager. Therefore, I eventually abandoned my Mancala board and stopped playing indefinitely. My new treasured object is now my iPhone, where I can download games and play them anywhere I go that involve repetitive movements as well. I can also watch Netflix, send a text to my friend or facetime them when I get
Farewell to Manzanar, a historical memoir, delivers an inspiring perspective on how Japanese were treated at their time in internment. This book is highly recommended for students who are in curiosity to learn more about the Pearl Harbor bombing and how the Japanese were affected by the way they had to live. While reviewing this book, it was noticed that there was excellent content, sources and perspectives. The author also had an interesting background that inspired her to write this memoir. Although life at Manzanar seemed unbearable and tough, the memoir also describes how the Wakatsukis’ transition from their childhood memories and how they think of Mazanar as adults; especially Jeanne.
Cats cradle The book Cats Cradle by Curt Vonnegutt repeatedly mentions the game the Cats Cradle. In “Isla” by Virgil Suárez the author uses imagery and descriptive phrases to paint a picture of the pain an immigrant experiences in a world, described as an island, where they are unwanted and unwelcome (Kirszner & Mandell, 2012, p.679). The author’s use of descriptive phrases allows me to see the world as through the eyes of the young boy and I can see reality as the young boy believes it to be (JOLLIMORE, 2009). Just as the monster Godzilla would rise up against those determined to suppress his existence, an immigrant must rise up against oppression in an environment where he was not wanted (Kirszner & Mandell, 2012, p.679). Being an immigrant is likened to being on an island exiled away from all that is acceptable. “Isla” or island is
Option 1 What is the significance of the family’s having left the Illano for Guadalupe? How does the move represent the conflict between Antonio’s father and mother? “Understanding comes with life.” (22) Antonio’s father and mother conflict causes Gabriel to give up his lifestyle of being a Marez to move to a better place where his children can live and be kids.
In Timothy Matovina’s article, there have been parishes that has “enabled women to exercise greater leadership and authority” (“Our Lady Of Guadalupe: Patroness Of América” 11). Our Lady of Guadalupe has definitely given power to these women to fight for equal gender roles in the Church. Through Guadalupe’s blessing, Esther Rodriguez says, “Guadalupe gives you [women] dignity to go places you haven’t been before” (“Our Lady Of Guadalupe: Patroness Of América” 11). “Matrifocal” (Sager 10) also involves the Madonna where she is not only the “Mother of God” (Sager 10), but the “spiritual mother of the people” (Sager 10). Our Lady of Guadalupe cares for her people just like any mother would care for her children.

History: Aztec Life and Culture The Aztec civilization is one of the most spectacular examples of culture and art found in world history. The Aztecs were a group of American Indians speaking Nahuatl who arrived on the North American continent from the arid cactus lands of Northwest. They settled in Mexico for centuries where they were initially enslaved by the other Nahua tribes before emerging as a powerful tribe. The history of the Central Valley of Mexico after tenth century A.D. is dominated by a long tradition of tribal conflicts that led to the fall of several civilizations, replaced by subsequent Nahua tribes.
“The Epic Journey of Cabeza de Vaca: A land So Strange” written by Andres Resendez takes place in the sixteenth century with Spanish conquistadors searching for treasures in northern Mexico, and the state of Florida that only a handful have traveled into, leaving this unknown territory to be speculated about. Small calculations of addition and subtraction are involved in such games. Children, who play such games, will eventually become master in doing small calculations. Children are not good at small calculations even. Many parents are not even aware of this; when they will play such board games with their children, they may come to know about this. On children end, they will get to do small calculations with interest and result will be their improved small calculations skills.
It is a tool to use for people to play and really be interested in what they are doing. As people play these video games they are also improving their cognitive skill without knowing it.
