Who am I? My name is Rosalie van der Maarel and I am a student at the International School of Breda. My hobbies, besides photography, are horse riding, travelling and reading. At a very young age, my parents discovered I was sensitive to certain sounds, senses and detail. Later we found out I was highly sensitive. This has lots of positive consequences, but also brings some negative consequences with it. Photography allows me to depict the things I see that might not be obvious to other people. Shutter speed freezes action or blurs motion. When photographing an object in motion, different shutter speeds will result in different effects. With a fast shutter speed (1/1000, 1/500, 1/250) you can freeze motion and with a slow shutter speed (1/60, 1/30, 1/15) you are able to blur motion. When doubting which shutter speed to use, think to yourself if anything in your image is moving, if yes, how do you want to capture that movement. Frozen or blurred? Program In program, you can decide how sensitive your camera is to the light given. If you choose a low ISO number, your camera will be less sensitive to the light, while a high number increases the sensitivity of your camera. This is made available by a component found in your camera called the sensor. This is the most significant part of a camera that absorbs the light and turns it into a picture. A higher ISO also adds noise to the image, noise is discoloration spots that appear on your image. It is similar to grain that can be found in film photographs. A camera also has a base ISO, this is the lowest ISO available on your camera, which is usually 100 or 200. It is recommended to stick to the base ISO since this will result in the highest quality

Personal identity refers to the concept you develop of yourself that evolves over time. This includes aspects of your life you don’t have control over such as where you were born and raised, your skin color, and your sexuality. However, your personal identity may also contain things such as choices you make and what you believe. These aspects that are controllable are subject to change as you develop a better sense of self identity. Defining my self, I can attribute several processes that allow me to view certain aspects of my identity.

This explains the how vital the depth of field is and what a photographer has to look for when doing a photo shoot, such as how sharp of a background they want without making the person blend into the background. Becoming an essential part of portrait photography, “The background is chosen to enhance the person and set the mood. The choices range from plain to busy, light to dark, and from one to many colors,” (Kropscot 5). Therefore the subject is the most vital part of portrait photography, but the environment can help develop their identity trying to be portrayed. Before a photographer does a photo shoot they have to ask themselves various questions and discuss the subject the type of identity they want to express.
Just as Sontag emphasises in her essay, photography is useful tool that captures the memories, defenses against anxiety, and brings familiarity. In additional, personally I also believe that photos can empower the world by sharing
Photographs are works of art that capture moments in time. They’re important because they document instances, which can later complete or create history. Looking at a photograph one is immediately intrigued. After studying the composition of the photo its meaning comes to mind, one begins to wonder why such a photo was taken. Self-identity is defined as the recognition of one's potential and qualities as an individual, especially in relation to social context. In other words, self-understanding. Finding self-identity is more more difficult for some people than others. In the autobiography Black, White, and Jewish: Autobiography of a Shifting Self by Rebecca Walker, the author reflects on her identity as a mixed raced individual which is illustrated through Walker’s reflections. People define themselves in many different ways.
My Identity Defined My Identity is a collaboration of the other people who have had an impact on me, as well as the experiences I have undergone and endured so far in my life.. My heritage and ethnicity influences me to an extent, but it does not necessarily define me. I consider my identity to be how I see myself and what strengths I posses. I have produced the identity I hold, and outside forces have only positively influence me and helped to better myself as a person.
Photography is important because it opens a view into a person’s mind and allows them to convey messages. It’s a universal language: anyone can look at a photo and decipher its meaning or be influenced by it. Photography has a positive influence on society by evoking emotions and insight. Photography inspires people; it can influence the direction one may take in life. This inspiration may lead to a person doing what they love or following in the footsteps of someone they look up to.
I have always hated writing about myself, and I always dreaded assignments in school where I had to describe myself. I always wanted to avoid doing these assignments because I did not want to sound narcissistic, or self-absorbed. I dislike people like that now, because I used to be one of those people. It took many lessons learned before I humbled myself; I am still learning to humble myself today with recent experiences I have had. Although I hate to write about myself, I have always liked to reflect on myself.
The question posed in the title, “Who am I?” is very simple but the answers are never so. What defines me as who I am as a person today are relatively my attitude, my personal values and beliefs to life that developed throughout my life. “Values are constructs that we hold as important and beliefs are constructs that we hold to be true (Collins & Chippendale, 1995)”. Meanwhile, attitudes are relatively lasting clusters of emotions, beliefs, and behavior tendencies directed towards specific ideas, people or objects (Baron & Byrne, 1984). Generally, my family members, friends and the experiences I had contribute to my sense of who I am and how I view the world.
