For the purpose of this essay , I have chosen the Coca-Cola organisation to discuss. I think that to Coca-Cola use a great deal of psychology behind their typography, design and symbolism. As seen in Image one , even in hebrew Coca-Cola’s logo is still easily recognisable thanks to its typeface.Typography draws the consumer's attention to the product , the text is always placed behind a contrasting background and they always keep the colours the same black , white and red. I think that consistency and the ability to adapt are the key components to Coca-Cola’s logos success and the typography is at the heart of it. Without the use of typography , Coca-Cola would not be as recognisable it's the fact that they picked an iconic typeface that's playful , simple and distinctive that makes their logo timeless , classic and iconic. This is why typography is so important in Coca-Cola’s organisation. Design is also another very important aspect to Coca-Cola’s success. As a young child I remember thinking how Coca-Cola seemed so grown up and sophisticated , it was always off limits and it made me covet it even more. The red shiny can and the white swooshing letters made it even more attractive to me. Even as an adult I am immediately drawn to the glaringly obvious red can in a shops fridge. Symbols are as old as humans, they are even older than the written word. Originally symbols were associated with religions but nowadays they are associated with a brand for example , a mermaid is associated with Starbucks , an apple with Apple and the red , white curved bottle silhouette with Coca-Cola. The hourglass shape of the Coca-Cola bottle is one of the most famous shapes in the world. Companies make symbols so they can resonate with consumers. Coca-Cola have really tried to make their curved bottle into a symbol as seen perfectly in picture five
