Desirable Communities “To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often” (Churchill). The book The Giver, by Lois Lowry and the video Christmas Kindness, hosted by Oprah Winfrey are two examples of different societies. In The Giver’s Society everyone is treated the same so no one can feel left out. Everyone gets the same things at the same time so no one can get jealous. They apologize for everything they do and no gets hurt. However, in South Africa kids do not receive presents and most people do not even have clothes or food every day.
