He paid homage to those friends because some of them passed away fighting and O’Brien wanted to show what made them special, especially because the men who fought and died in Vietnam often came home disrespected and ignored. Every story helped to shine light on the men who lost the fight. O’Brien went into incredible detail about what exactly made each man in his platoon special, especially if there was a story to lay to rest. By sharing these stories, themes of homage and sacrifice were explored as O’Brien hoped to explain what their friendship was and why it was so
Firstly, selflessness is a great quality of being a hero because of how Desmond Doss ran on to the battlefield with out thinking about himself. Also, being charitable is another great quality of a hero, because of Terry Fox and how he raised money for cancer. Lastly, by being courageous people can become a hero, as Malala because of what she fought for what she wanted and did not give up no matter what happen. So all it takes is to be selfless, charitable, and courageous to be a hero. People do not have to go to war or have superpowers to become a hero in someone’s
That is what true heroism is, after all the things you go through to be able to forgive them for what they had done to him. Another reason why he is a true hero is because he was loyal to his country. Quotes: “That night, the sense of shame and powerlessness that had driven his need to hate the Bird had vanished. The Bird was no longer his monster. He was only a man” (Hillenbrand, 379).
An epic hero is an individual who must evoke a sense of heroism through legendary and inspiring deeds (Merriam-Webster). These heroes of tragedy have the ability to determine their own fortune due to the amount of admired characteristics they possess. However, the ideals of an epic hero are constantly fluctuating due to the ever changing ideals of society. Although the characteristics of an epic hero are under constant modification, Beowulf is still an effective modern-day hero due to his acts of courage, compassion, and dedication in relation to his people. Courage can be defined as any individual possessing moral or mental strength in the face of physical pain or indescribable hardship (Personalitytutor).
Everything about a hero takes guts. “To me, true American Exceptionalism consists of voluntary acts of charity, embracing the freedom to do your life’s purpose, and experiencing the growth and resilience that comes from making mistakes along the way.” (Phillips) What soldiers do for everyone is an act of love in itself, even if it may be for their own benefit; they are here for our country and saving others, willingly. In everyday life we see heroes, not just those in uniform, but the people who blend into the background. We see them all the time, but do not give them any thought, and we take them for granted more often than not. These heroes can be the ones who donate to charity around Christmas time so a child can eat.
In the film, Hacksaw Ridge a combat medic by the name of Desmond Doss refuses to go into combat without any type of weapon. In the movie, it is pointed out that it is his right not to bear arms, just as much as it is other people’s right to bear arms. Throughout the movie, Private Doss is literally beaten for his beliefs and desire to continue on fighting for what he believes in. The things that Private Doss did and sacrificed for his beliefs saved the lives of more than 50 lives and changed the hearts of even more. The first leadership quality seen in the movie is when Private Doss enlisted in the army.
He won the battle not because of superior odds, but as a result of the speech that invigorated a true fighting spirit of his men. A peasant with nothing to live for and no will to fight will not perform nearly as well as a man filled with dignity and honor. King Henry made all of his comrades feel as though they weren’t anything, but dignified warriors. His speech was able to compose this great of an impact with his speech with reason that his words are backed up by his past actions. A marvelous king can rule righteously, a great king can also love and be loved by his
Memorial Day is a day to remember all of the brave and selfless people who gave their lives in order to serve our country. Memorial Day is filled with lots of celebration such as barbecues and parades. These celebrations are a great way to show your appreciation, but it’s super significant that we understand the meaning behind Memorial Day. Memorial Day means many things to me. Firstly, it reminds me that I should recognize all of the courageous men and women who fought for our freedom and liberty.
He can entirely rule the kingdom of Dane. I admire his courageous acts, his power, and strength, his positivity and a hero to his people. I appreciate all of his sacrifices to the kingdom of Dane. A brave man who can give his own life and give up his own son so other may live and continue their journey.
Why is he remembered as the father of Nation? Another evidence is that it is known for most people that Gandhi became an inspiration for the future leaders in their road to freedom and nationalist movements. One of them was great Martin Luther King who admitted with great pleasure the influence of the Gandhi on his actions. These all actually illustrate us to what extend Gandhi was an effective leader with his arguments leading the road for freedom to his country. To conclude, he was a man with tremendous personal courage by leading revolutionary change without the violence, a man who could transform the nation.
Examples of this can be found in Stoic Warriors in the chapter entitled “Sound bodies and sound minds.” Army captain David Rozelle lost his right foot in a mine explosion. After receiving proper medical attention, Rozell was able to recover and persist through grueling workouts. He is resilient but at the same time, he is honest about the loss of his foot. We can view Rozell accepting the loss of his foot as an indifferent. He is not obsessed with having his foot back and he is able to continue living his life without it.
When Perry is given the option to return to the United States early because of his medical profile, he declines. Perry knew that without him, the squad would be one man short; therefore, he risked his life in order to protect his friends. Another man who displayed heroism was Lieutenant Carroll. A squad member named Brew described a firefight where Lieutenant Carroll risked his life to save the entire squad. He said, “When the chips were down, he put his ass on the line for the guys” (Myers
Brett Kyle’s father Brad Kyle met with Jaime Foxx the next day to thank him personally for saving the life of his son. Tears rolled down his face as he talked with Jamie and thanked him for saving a man he did not know. He said to CBS News, “It’s all tears of joys. It does not matter to me who it was or what they do for a living. Just the idea that someone would do that is so much more than I could fathom.” Brad Kyle viewed the security tape so he could see Jamie and Christian saving his son and pulling him to safety.
Valiant means possessing bravery, courage, determination, and showing heroic actions. He volunteered to go to Moloka‘i. Father Damien not only volunteered, he didn’t hesitate for a moment, even when the Bishop questioned him, and was the first to volunteer. He calmly touches the leprosy patients as if they don’t have the disease. Most people would think twice about going to a place with Hansen’s disease, but Father Damien chose to stay at Moloka‘i permanently.
