“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world,” said Nelson Mandela. Many people have said that college was the best four years of their life so choosing the right college is very important in that decision. In college many students find lifelong friends and make unforgettable memories. This paper will discuss academics, student life, athletics, and the city of Detroit. These are some of the reasons why the University of Detroit Mercy is a great fit for students. The University of Detroit Mercy is located in the heart of Detroit at the corner of Livernois and McNichols. “University of Detroit Mercy, a Catholic university in the Jesuit and Mercy traditions, exists to provide excellent student-centered undergraduate and graduate education in an urban context. A Detroit Mercy education seeks to integrate the intellectual, spiritual, ethical and social development of our students”(udmercy.edu). In 1877 the Jesuits founded Detroit College off of Jefferson Ave. that later expanded to the University of Detroit. This was a university for men and was known for its academic excellence taught by the Jesuits. The university later moved to its current location in 1927.
