1. Case Law (Deuteronomy 13:1-4) 1. If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder, 2. And the sign or wonder that he tells you comes to pass, and if he says, ‘Let us go after other gods,’ which you have not known, ‘and let us serve them,’ 3. You shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams. For the Lord your God is testing you, to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul 4. You shall walk after the Lord your God and fear him and keep his commandments and obey his voice, and you shall serve him and hold fast to him.
2. Principle According to Edwards, he explains the function of the second commandments is to protect the first because “man would make God ‘man-size’.” The false prophet or dreamer who is in the passage might suppose other gods who look understandable and reasonable. If someone is

Application Who is a prophet and dreamer in the context of today? In ancient time, the prophet might be a person who can inform the future and suggest the wise way to prepare unknown tomorrow. In this light, I think that today’s prophet and dreamer is thinkers who can have an influence on an ideology in societies because these thinkers suggest a framework of thinking, and this frame makes people understand the situation of today and expect tomorrow like a sign or wonder. Last Monday, there was a big demonstration of polish women in over 60 cities protesting the proposition of ban on abortion. In Poland, abortion is already illegal except in cases of rape, incest, or danger to the mother’s life, but the legislature is now proposing an absolute ban. One of the protesters said “They are violating our civic rights, and I wanted to support all the women who may be hurt, who may be denied medical help and forced to have a disabled child. And I am doing if for my daughter.” Through only one sentence, we can easily understand what is their framework of
Rather than stating the argument, Willis poses it as a question, “Are the fetuses the moral equivalent of born human beings?” (Abortion Debate 76), thus showing how modern feminists can only support one side of the argument in their chosen stance, and cause limitations by doing so. In doing so, Willis shows how to some “extent… we objectify our enemy and define the terms of our struggle as might makes right, the struggle misses its point” (Ministries of Fear 210), which implies that feminists have completely missed the point of the argument by getting caught up in an answer. Rather than looking for a compromise or gray area, they exert their stance as the only solution that woman can have. Willis also shows how feminists fundamentally “see the primary goal of feminism as freeing omen from the imposition of so called ‘male values’, and creating an alternative culture based on ‘female values’”
In the article, Matthew Day summarizes the event of Polish women going on strike to protest a proposed abortion ban. Essentially abortion would be forbid in Polish in all cases, except if the life of the mother is threatened. According to Day, the past law used to allow abortion in the cases of rape and incest, but the new proposed one would completely ban it even for women under this circumstances. As stated by Day, on the day of the protest named “Black Monday” tens of thousands of Polish women dressed in black missed work to protest against the new proposed law that would totally ban abortions. The new legislation would impose woman who undergoes the procedure imprisoned and the doctors that performs the procedure would be criminalized.
As humans, we are given different rights that are meant to provide us with a chance at a good life. However, these rights can become compromised when it comes to conflicts between a pregnant woman and her fetus. The right of the fetus to live is seen as inferior to the right of the mother to have an abortion. Although each of the rights is different, it is not appropriate to say that one citizen’s rights are more superior than another citizen’s rights.
When a woman chooses to keep her baby, it may not be her decision; it may be her moral duty to the society influenced by her family’s pressure and religious belief. However, if she considers the broad social factors that will shape and influence her views, and that will allow her to make individual choices such as whether to keep her baby or not, she is applying what C. Wright Mills’ called the Social Imagination. James Henslin (2013) stated that C. Wright Mills’s sociological imagination gives us the ability “to understand how our personal troubles (the problems we experience) are connected to the broader conditions of our society” (p. 2). It allows us to question the “norms” and gives us the ability to see things from different perspectives
Before Roe v. wade the number of deaths from illegal abortions was around 5000 and in the 50s and 60s the number of illegal abortions ranged from 200,000 to 1.2 million per year. These illegal abortions pose major health risks to the life of the woman including damage to the bladder, intestines as well as rupturing of the uterus. The choice to become a mother must be given to the woman most importantly because it’s her body, her health, and she will be taking on a great responsibility. A woman’s choice to choose abortion should not be restricted by anyone; there are multiple reasons why abortion will be the more sensible decision for the female.
Women’s rights have been a long struggle in America’s legal system, as well as in the religious world, for many decades and women continue to have challenges, concerns, and struggles today. Fighting for what is best for their bodies such as a woman’s right to contraceptives to control whether she will get pregnant or not was not ideal for religious and personal reasons but would find a worthy advocate in a woman who would dedicate her life for women’s reproductive rights. The right for a woman to have an abortion became a legal battle that went all the way to the Supreme Courts in a very well-known case. It has always been a double standard in what was right and wrong, moral or immoral, towards women than men. A man was looked at with respect
Argumentative Analysis of Abortion Rights Abortion is a controversial topic and people have debated between “Pro-Choice”, a woman’s right to choose, as well as “Pro-Life”, strictly anti-abortion, for decades. For Abortion Rights Action Week, a Harvard College newspaper printed an opinion-based article by Tanya Luhrmann called, The Pro-Choice Argument. She claims that a priceless part of a human life is experiencing motherhood. Based on Luhrmann’s research, she presents a strongly reasoned argument between “Pro-Choice” and “Pro-Life”, and how the perspectives of both sides affects the irreplaceable relationship of a mother and child.
The evidence I found in Deuteronomy 4-6 that God wanted the Israelites to obey from love, not duty was by the purpose of God’s love giving them the law to bless them (v.3) The point of the law was to love God (v.5). The purpose of God’s love is not because of something in us, but because of his nature and promise (vv.7-8) Their inheritance of God’s blessing was based on God’s love not their righteousness (vv.4-6). Why Shema ,also known as (Deuteronomy 6:4-55 “ You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might” ), was one of the most powerful and well-known passages in the Old Testament was because these words were the purpose for their worship and life purpose as it was set before for the citizens
Abortion is one of the most controversial topics of all times. There are two types of abortion, Spontaneous which takes place naturally and induced which this essay will mainly present. Induced abortion is defined by the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy. I believe that abortion should be legalised and accepted in all countries for different reasons such as; it 's cruel for raped women to go through with pregnancy, The mother has the right to choose for herself as it is her body not anyone else’s, a young girl is not ready for the responsibilities of womanhood and finally the health of the woman is more important.
Doris Gudino Professor Chounlamountry Political Science 1 27 July 2015 Pro-Choice Anyone? A woman has, undoubtedly, the freedom to procreate, but once a woman chooses to retreat from that freedom, a commotion arises. Abortion is a woman’s choice for many reasons. It’s her body, therefore, no one else can decide for said person.
The procedure of an abortion does more good for the mother and family than it prevents a life from occurring. The mother’s body should be respected, as it always should be. The mother’s life should always be put in priority. When rape is placed into the world of possibility behind pregnancy then a woman should always be helped during a traumatic event such as a rape. Even the idea of monetary struggles of families should be observed.
I agree with you that the main concerns of the editor was to address the people and bring the myth forward. I too found it hard at first to understand the real meaning of myth in this context. Every time I read the word myth I thought of it as being a story that was not true. I found myself having to review Frigge’s explanation of myth in chapter 4. Frigge describes myth as having a structure of a story and a purpose “to explain why things the way they are” (Frigge, 55).
Comparing to the role of the prophets in the Old Testament to the role of pastor of Christian leader today, they are some similarities that we can identified, for example: 1. They both were God's chosen people that were called to be God's messenger in proclaiming God's message to God's people. 2. They both were responsible for the spiritual life of the people that God entrusted us with. 3.
Look what a serious offence it is for Aaron and Miriam to go against Moses; how they offended God. Look at what God says to them in verse eight; they should have even been afraid to even speak against Moses. You should be afraid to even speak against the pastor. He is God’s representative and God’s ambassador in the church. You see, God’s perspective is that if you will not obey appointed authority, then, you will not obey divine authority.
Background There are ongoing debates about abortion and they are very interesting because people come up with different worldviews. For Instance the Christian worldview abortion is forbidden, because it is against the commandments of God. In the postmodern worldview laws which are against or not supporting abortion are not acceptable. People who are against abortion are protecting lives of the unborn babies and the Christian worldview. Those who are for the idea of abortion are protecting women rights to choose and the postmodern worldview.
