The purpose of the study was to determine how technology could be used to develop an interest and passion for a student’s subject. Participants were asked about their learning goals and were introduced to a points system on Edmodo. Students earned extrinsic rewards like points for their contribution to the online classroom discussion. The results of the study indicated that students with mastery-oriented goals are more likely to engage in online collaborative learning practices.
