BOTSWANA’S DEVELOPMENTS SINCE 1996 INTRODUCTION This essay will firstly define development administration and discuss how Botswana was before 1966 in relation to development as well as show how she improved after 1966 when now Botswana was a sovereign and independent country.Great emphasis will be made on how important it is to make developments and sustain them because most African countries have been able to get developed but have difficulties in sustaining the developments.Transparency and accountability in bureaucracy are the most important principles which led to developments in Botswana. Botswana was one of the fastest growing countries in the world between 1966 and 1974. Real GDP growth was 16% between 1970 and 1974, and the country was able to maintain sustained growth which continued until 1989. After discovering diamonds in 1967 an explicit industrial policy of private sector oriented developmentin the mining sector as a result mining became the leading economic sector of Botswana. Domestic savings started to exceed investment and the government ran budget and trade surpluses. The ratio of government revenue to GDP was a superb 50% and peaked to 64% in 1988.
